I was just wondering if you could have 3 pets - a dog to stay at home, and the two pets brought home by the two children.

I don't know about anyone else but I managed to get two dogs. One being Meeko and the other being the dog at the Markarth Stables. Also, Alvor, the blacksmith in Riverwood, and his wife died so I adopted Dorthe, she brought in a rabbit. Does that count as three pets?
my child killed his mud crab when he was practicing using his daggar lol i just went to last save
My daughter, sissel brought home a snow fox, which I was really happy about. Is is still possible for my son, Gralnach to bring home a pet? Preferably a skeever? My goal is to have a total of 3 pets, a snow fox, a skeever (mud crab is fine too, tho), and a dog, bran. Can anyone confirm if this is possible? And if so, is there anyway to speed up the process or increase the chances of my son bringing home a skeever?
I think that if you stop by your family home more often, you'll have a better chance of triggering the encounter. Stop by after every quest and unload some junk on your spouse, then check on the kids to see if they brought anything home. If they don't have the pet you want, reload a save from just before you get close to your home.
Sophie brought home Cotton within a few days of adopting the child. Lucia has never brought home a pet, although she immediately asked to keep Meeko as soon as I arrived with him. I'll test more, since I haven't lost any animals followers to death.
Any luck?
Got my girl Lucia to take in a snow fox and meeko. Now Hroar is my problem I want him to get a skeever and this stray dog I found. He seems not to want to get any pet. :c
I have one dog following me, one dog at home and my son adopted a baby skeever. I have to kids so that might be why i can have another dog at home.
Does anyone have an actual answer for this? I want to know what the actual limit is on real pets, not followers, in a home, without mods/cc. When trying to look into it I've seen people claim anywhere from 1-4 pets being possible without mods. If memory serves, my last playthrough I was only able to have 2 pets, a dog follower that a child asked to keep home, and a wild pet my other child found and asked to keep. I'm currently replaying skyrim on ps4 after not touching it for years, and one of my kids just brought home a skeever but I don't want to let him keep it if the limit is 2 since I want a husky and either Meeko or a fox. I don't know if 2 dogs is possible either since I get mixed results when I search for that too, I do know I personally never got my kids to ask to keep 2 dog followers, just 1.
I guess I'll try to test this tomorrow and will followup here with results.
Edit; Alright, I ran 2 different tests. I have my wife Aela and 2 kids, Blaise and Sophie, at Heljarchen Hall.
Test 1: I let Blaise adopt the skeever, went and got a dog, and he adopted him too instantly. I then went and got another dog, waited for 4+ days in Windhlem, quicksaved, and returned home a million times from said quicksave, and each time I deleted and disabled all autosaves since those lock what random child event happens. So I successfully triggered all child events, at least 50 times, except no additional pet adoptions. My take away is that adopting 1 wild animal and then 1 dog is the limit.
Test 2: I WAS going to try letting both kids adopt a wild animal and then bring home a dog, to see if I could get it to 3 total, and see if maybe the order of adoption made a difference, but after Blaise adopts the skeever, so I went back to Blaise adopting the skeever, let him keep it, then waited 2 weeks in Windhelm, quicksaved, then kept going home again, and Sophie hasn't brought home any animals after, again, more than 50 tries. So I'm done trying to test it myself, |'ve already wasted hours watching loading screens on repeat trying to figure it out.
So unless someone can confirm otherwise, I'm going to assume that without CC or mods, and not counting followers, the limit is just 2.
Your dog follower does not count towards the total number of household pets unless your child asks to adopt it.
The only pet/follower spider/goat you can get is from the Pets of Skyrim CC. I don't think any of the CC pets count towards household pets.
