Yes indeed, the Ebony Blade (Artifact, not Ebony Sword) has the greatest swing speed of all the 2-handed weapons. It also benefits from 1-handed perks, unless you have the newest patch. Which you probably do.
No. All weapons in their "type" swing at the same speed (surprised that isn't common knowledge by now, but then it can be hard to tell visually). Swords have a swing speed of "1" (that is, 1 swing per second). Axes have 0.9, maces have 0.8, all great-swords have 0.7... Interestingly, battle axes ALSO have a swing speed of 0.7 (and with slightly more damage and stagger effect...), but warhammers finish the pattern with a speed of 0.6. (Daggers have a speed of 1.3 BTW)
Fun Fact: The Dragonbone Greatsword, in comparison to other weapons via aesthetics, looks like an actual/viable real-life weapon. Aside from the serrated edges in the blade's mid-section, and the concave design above the serration, and the fictitious material used for the blade and hilt.
In short, if you took the blade portion ofĀ an Iron Sword, vertically enlarged it, and "meshed" it with the Dragonbone Greatsword's hilt design, you'd have a near prim-proper greatsword.
As the weight of the item contributes to the speed of the swing (like the weight of a bow to it's draw speed) it's really a question of weighing up weight vs damage output.Ā
I've found the ancient nord hero weapons to fill this niche well but it's worth experimenting to find out for yoursef.Ā

Nope. Every type of weapon (1h sword, 1h maces, 2h axes, etc) has only one swing speed that depends only in it's type and not in it's weight. In Skyrim logic, a 2h sword (a greatsword) weighing 2 ton (2000 kg) will swing as fast as a greatsword weghing 20 kg. So, yeah... weight only matters if you want to leave more space for carrying stuff, but don't affect dps at all.
While the weight does not contribute to swing speed, he is right that the ancient nord hero, nord hero, and honed ancient nord greatswords swing slightly faster than the rest of them.Ā I put a comment about it 3 years back on uesp, not sure why this is, but it means that after you smith it up and put some enchants on it, the dps is roughly the same as dragonbone.Ā My guess is that it was a typo on one of them that got copied and pasted to the other two.Ā Then there are the unique weapons like volendrung that swings like a greatsword, or longhammer that swings like a one-hand axe.
to be specific, I get about 0.966 instead of the 0.909 attacks per second you get with a normal greatsword
To round up what y'all are saying, your skills have somthing to do with it andSinXD what world are you living in where you can make a metric measurment into an imperial messurment?!
