As of today, Wikia released a new feature in which communities can build their own interactive maps.
I made an example map anyone can freely edit. In this example I started a map of Tamriel that is not specifically related to any game. It could resemble all lore-locations in Tamriel, but for the purpose of showcasing I chose to pick the biggest article in case multiple game articles covered the same landmark.
Note: it appears the thumbnail is not working correctly, so use Special:Maps/83 instead.
We can have multiple maps (TombRaiser made another example map). A possible map I had in mind would be the ultimate map for The Elder Scrolls Online where every single sub map of an area could fit into one giant world map (Photoshop guru required, my previous effort of stitching a map failed). Every NPC or quest location or whatever you make up could be included in this map. Pins come in multiple categories which you can filter. A miniature preview focused on the highlighted area could then be included into article pages, like the map I loaded above (or included in any infobox as a miniature of course).
This post is purely to inform you of this new feature and I hope you will enjoy playing with it. I encourage you to bring up some ideas of your own on new map styles or new methods of using this new feature.
You can read Help:Wikia Maps for more information.
Both maps listed above may be featured as Wikia-wide example maps in the near future if they become of very high quality. So go ahead and make this happen! ;)
