^Yea, MMOs arent normally my cup of tea but I still find ESO pretty fun. I think the way Zenimax did armor was really good. You have light which can have robes for mages or skin tight leggings for assassins, medium which is padded with pieces of leather and bits of meddle for casual adventures or theives, and heavy which is exactly what you would expect for a typical knight.

Heavy. Loads of the armor look pretty sick, especially some unique ones such as the Ebony Mail. Also, it offers me more protection

Medium but they omitted that from Skyrim because they were to lazy

Technically it's still a thing. Just mix heavy and light.

^^ It's still under light armor doesn't mean that medium armor is in the game. Just like there's less armor pieces than Oblivion and Morrowind

I don't really use a whole set. I usually mix and match Ebony and Nightingale
