As a video game character I think he’s probably one of the best Skyrim offers. He’s well-written, his voice actor gives his AI controlled meat puppet life, his backstory is an awesome tale of a man destined for Greatness but who falls to their own desire for power and self-righteousness. He’s betrayed and been betrayed, won and lost, and more. And the character and his beliefs spawned a debate that lasts too this day.
As a person I can’t help but despise him. In my opinion, his actions are ridiculously wrong and small-minded. He refuses to believe in anybody but himself and his Stormcloaks, completely blasphemed the Way of the Voice, started a Civil War after the Great War, unknowingly completed the prophecy regarding Alduin’s return, ignores the blatant racism and xenophobia in his own ranks and city, and has a crummy axe. And in the end, if he’s killed and talked to in Sovengarde, he expresses regret for starting a war that’s only outcome was powering the World-Eater.
