The Great War began with the killing of high profile people the Empire. Soon the most powerful countries in Tamriel began to go to war with each other. It ended with harsh punishments, civil wars, and the rise of nationalism. Sounds familiar?
The real Great War began with Austrian nobility getting killed by Serbian nationalists. Austria-Hungary looked like it was going to war with Serbia. Soon Germany, Russia, France, Britain, Italy, and the Ottoman Empire were brought in the conflict. In the end, Germany was punished severely, a civil war began in Russia, and nationalism grew in Germany, leading to the Second World War.
So both of these wars began with important people of an empire getting assassinated, and both of these wars brought most of a continent into the conflict. The winners of both gave harsh punishments to the losers, and because of this nationalists took over their countries. And both seem to be leading to a second war.
Do you think Bethesda intended for the Great War of the Elder Scrolls to be like The First World War? It seems like it to me. Or do you think it is just a coincidence? There are some differences for example while WW1 began with two nobles getting killed, the Great War began with an entire faction(the Blades) getting wiped out.
What do you think? I’m not saying Bethesda 100% wanted these to be the same. Just saying it’s a little strange how similar these are.
(Also, the Black Hand was a group of Serbian nationalists who assasinated the Austrian Archduke and his wife. Anyone who played Oblivion knows that the Black Hand was apart of the Dark Brotherhood. Just a fun fact.)
