"Ah, Aegisbane. Sigil of Clan Shatter-Shield. But didn't that get stolen awhile back?"
Windhelm Guard[src]

Aegisbane is a unique iron warhammer that can be found in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Acquisition[edit | edit source]

It can be obtained in the ruins of Raldbthar by defeating Alain Dufont.

Due to Alain's previous connections to the Shatter-Shields of Windhelm as well as the radiant conversations regarding the fact that their family warhammer has been stolen, it is assumed that this is the Shatter-Shields' aforementioned missing hammer.

Smithing[edit | edit source]

Aegisbane can be upgraded with an iron ingot and the Arcane Blacksmith perk at a grindstone; however, it does not benefit from any Smithing perks.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • When wielding the warhammer in Windhelm, guards may notice it and comment on it. The comment names the weapon as "Aegisbane" and refers to it as the heirloom of the Shatter-Shields. The guard concludes the comment by stating that the last time it was heard of, it was stolen by Alain Dufont and Muiri. This means that this is in fact the stolen warhammer. There is no known way to return the weapon to its owners.
  • The name of the warhammer may be a reference to the Shatter-Shields' name, as "aegis" is Greek for "shield," implying that it destroys shields.
  • Aegisbane looks completely identical to a normal iron warhammer, the only difference being its name and Frost Enchantment.
  • Despite being unique, the enchantment is quite weak compared to other frost enchanted unique weapons, such as Firiniel's End and Chillrend.
  • Aegisbane is likely intended to be a parallel of the Aegis-Fang from the Forgotten Realms universe in Dungeons & Dragons.
