"I have not read the works of Mrs. Ottus. I'm told some find her guide books useful, though she apparently has strong opinions on some matters."
―Town gossip

Alessia Ottus is an Imperial commoner renowned for her series of guide books of the various cities of Cyrodiil. She resides in the Imperial City, in which she owns a large house in the Imperial City Temple District where she, her husband Hastrel Ottus, and her daughter Ida Ottus live.

Personality

Alessia shows extreme bias against all non-human races in Tamriel, but her hatred for the Orsimer, Argonians, Khajiit and other beast races is the most severe. She is also highly-prejudiced against non-Imperial humans, believing they and their places of business to be filthy and undesirable. She is highly distrustful of magic in general, disliking the Mages Guild. She appears to lack knowledge of the recent changes in the Guild, as in her Guide to Cheydinhal she accuses the Guild of the wicked practice of Necromancy despite the recent and increasingly obvious ban of the dark art by Hannibal Traven. Also despite her hatred and distrust of the Mages Guild, she speaks favorably of Carahil, head of the Anvil Mages Guild, in her guide to the city, though that stems mostly from Carahil's hatred and opposition of Necromancy.

Though her books sold well throughout the lower, xenophobic class of Cyrodiil, it was generally regarded with disdain by the upper-class, who possessed a more worldly view of Tamriel.

Extremely religious, Alessia devoted most of her time to worshiping the Nine Divines at the Temple of the One in the Imperial City's Temple District, although she made it clear in her book regarding the Imperial City that she questions having a statue in the Arboretum for Talos and sees it as nothing more than a political move to please the Septim emperors.
