Area of Effect denotes the area in which a spell, skill, or ability affects a target or targets. Though most Area of Effect spells are Destruction class spells, variants do exist in Restoration, Alteration, and Conjuration. Typically used by Battlemage and Mage classes, these spells are helpful for taking out, or at least doing a decent to high amount of damage to a large group of enemies.

- Magic Rune (this includes Fire, Frost, Lightning, Poison, Ash, and Frenzy runes)

Cloaks[edit | edit source]
Cloaks are a technicality. They damage enemies in the range of the spell, but the range moves with the player. It is essentially a buff to the player's character that does damage:
Tips[edit | edit source]
- Spells like Blizzard, Lightning Storm, and Fire Storm are Master level spells. This means players will not be able to find them until later in the game, and even if the player does, they will most likely not have enough Magicka to use it. The Secret of Arcana power is useful for this, as no spells cost any Magicka for 30 seconds. If a player attacks an enemy with a master level spell at a low level, they will gain levels in that category very quickly.
- Earlier Area of Effect Destruction spells, like Fireball, are easy to obtain early on. This is very useful for dungeons at a beginning level, and do not cost too much Magicka.
