- Not to be confused with Satak.
Atak is the Argonian version of Anu, also known as the Great Root. It is one of the two components of Atakota.[1]
According to the myths of the Adzi-Kostleel tribe, there was at first only Atak. Atak knew of nothing but itself, so it decided to be everything. It grew and tried to fill the nothing with itself, and as it grew and formed roots, those roots took names and wanted space to grown on their own. Through this, Atak now learned that there were things other than itself, that went a different way from it.[1]
As Atak continued to grow, it encountered the serpent Kota out of the nothing. Kota had been growing just like Atak, and had become hungry due to growing a mouth. Atak put its roots through Kota's eyes, but Kota was strong and had grown fangs. Kota bit Atak, and through this interaction, they both learned things that the other had learned. Atak bit Kota back, and they continued their struggle for so long that they forgot they were fighting. Thus, they shed their skin and severed their roots and became Atakota. [1]
Eventually, as the spirits tore at Atakota's skin and drank its blood, Atakota broke back into Atak and Kota, and the conflict between the two began anew, though they had now learned about death, so there was a lot of violence. From Atak's sap then came the stones, and Kota's blood made up the oceans. The Shadow of Atakota awakened, and since it was bigger than Atak or Kota individually, it decided to eat them both.[1]
