The Battle of Kvatch or the Siege of Kvatch was an integral battle during the Oblivion Crisis and was one of the first conflicts during the Crisis. This battle was also when Martin Septim discovered his heritage and sought a way to help the Third Empire. The battle had occurred sometime after Uriel Septim VII's death, which had started the Oblivion Crisis in Tamriel. An Oblivion Gate had opened outside the gates of Kvatch, where the Gate had cleared the area with a wave of flames and despair. The Daedric Army marched into the city of Kvatch and burned down the city into the rubble, leaving burned buildings, corpses, and Kvatch in a shadow of its former self. There were two survivor groups throughout the Battle, a large portion of the city's denizen lived on the outskirts of Kvatch, on the hills of the city-state. Another group was safeguarded by Martin Septim in the ruined Chapel of Akatosh, ironic considering the events that play out later on. Traversing Kvatch was practically impossible, the chapel tower had collapsed onto the main road, while houses blocked the road going around the eastern wall. Arriving onto Castle Kvatch requires to enter through the Kvatchense sewers and arriving onto the main town square.

The Battle of Kvatch or the Siege of Kvatch was one of the first conflicts during the Oblivion Crisis; turning back the forces of Oblivion there was integral to the ultimate victory. Sometime after Uriel Septim VII's death, an Oblivion Gate opened outside the gates of Kvatch; the Daedric Army marched into the city of Kvatch and burned down the city into rubble, shells of buildings and corpses.

There were two survivor groups throughout the Battle. A large portion of the city's denizen lived on the outskirts of Kvatch, on the hills of the city-state. Another group was led to safety within the ruined Chapel of Akatosh by Martin Septim.

The Battle was primarily on the Daedric's side until an estranged warrior reached the Kvatch outskirts and entered the Oblivion Gate, from there the warrior took the Sigil Stone, diminishing the Gate. The Kvatch Guard on the outer battlefield opened Kvatch and rendezvoused with the survivors of the Akatosh Chapel. The warrior was then able to pass on the message to Martin entrusted to him by the Emperor before his death, that Martin was in fact the true and only heir to the throne.

Traversing Kvatch was practically impossible, the chapel tower had collapsed onto the main road, while houses blocked the road going around the eastern wall. Arriving onto Castle Kvatch requires to enter through the Kvatchense sewers and arriving onto the main town square.[1][2][3] The warrior and Savlian Matius breached the Castle Kvatch barracks and defeated the Daedric General in the stronghold. It was there the warrior discovered the dead body of Ormellius Goldwine, the then Count of Kvatch.

With Kvatch secured, the County would slowly recover and eventually be completely rebuilt by the time the Great War in the Fourth Era had occurred. With the knowledge of the destruction of Oblivion Gates, the denizens of Tamriel were able to withstand the offensive power of the Daedra. Other victories would follow suit including the Second Battle of Ione's Oblivion Gate and the Battle of Bruma.[3]
