Blackreach is a multi-zone region in The Elder Scrolls Online, Greymoor and Markarth, comprised of a massive underground system of caves beneath the province of Skyrim. Blackreach is divided into three sublocations: Arkthzand Cavern, MK Greymoor Caverns GM and Mzark Cavern.[1][2][3]

Background[]

"Blackreach, a legendary and long-forgotten realm that stretches beneath Skyrim, hides terrible creatures and even more terrible secrets. The caverns beneath Western Skyrim include Greymoor, the Lightless Hollow, Dark Moon Grotto, and Dusktown."
―Greymoor Caverns Loading screen[src]

Greymoor Caverns is an expansive section of Blackreach constituting much of the subterranean area of Hjaalmarch and Haafingar. The caverns were originally occupied by the Dwemer prior to their disappearance, as evident by the many structures and animunculi left behind. Now, the caverns are home to Falmer and the vampires of the Gray Host, among various other creatures. Much of the caverns' landscape, like the rest of Blackreach, is open and expansive, covered in mist and fog throughout. Bioluminescent biota, including giant mushrooms, are prevalent, providing ambient hues of blue, cyan and purple lighting.[1]

"The superstitious Reachfolk rarely speak of the dark caverns that lie beneath the surface of their sacred land. This willful ignorance, born from the wise belief that no good can come from unearthing what's best left forgotten, has served them well since they first settled along the Karth River."
―Arkthzand Cavern loading screen[src]

Arkthzand Cavern is a smaller section of Blackreach than the ajoining Greymoor Caverns, and constitutes the subterranean area of Skyrim's Reach.[4] Since their arrival in Skyrim and settlement of the lands around the Karth River, the Reachmen have claimed the caverns as their sacred land, despite the dangers left behind following the dissapearance of the cavern's original inhabitant's, the Dwemer.[5]

"A great open expanse extends beneath Eastmarch, and perhaps even beneath all of Skyrim. This hidden and near-legendary location is reported to house ancient Dwarven ruins, strange creatures, and monsters too horrible to venture into the light above."
―Mzark Cavern loading screen[src]

Nine Skyshards can be found in Blackreach totalling in three skill points. The zone guide provides clues as to the location of each Skyshard, but many can be found simply by exploring and watching for the distinctive pillar of light they emit.
