Walkthrough[]
In the ruins of Volenfell, you will meet a woman named Tharayya. She will tell you that her camp was attacked by treasure hunters, and that they are currently barring the way for her escape. You can offer to clear the way for her.
Head ahead and kill the enemies, then talk to Tharayya again. She will tell you that these goons were likely working for her ex-husband, Quintus Verres. The two of them had competing ideas about the dwemer, so when Tharayya found Volenfell first, Quintus stole her notes on something called the Guardian's Eye and killed her men. Tharayya came back with a small army, but did not forsee that Quintus would have an army too. Your next task is to look for Quintus and retrieve the research notes.
Proceed further along the path. You will find the Desert Lion along the way, but you do not have to engage with this boss. Head on and you will eventually run into Quintus Verres; he will first send some of his men after you, before confronting you himself. After you bring him to about half health, he will start throwing fireballs at you. When you bring him to low health, he will summon a Monstrous Gargoyle, that will crush him immediately; the gargoyle is your next opponent. Once you have killed it, retrieve Tharayya's notes and speak with Tharayya.
She will tell you what mut be done to get deeper into the ruins and obtain the Guardian's Eye. You are to head north into something called the Guardian's Helm and pull a lever there. Head north along the path and fight your way through some enemies until you reach a secret tunnel. There will be some Dwemer automatons in this tunnel, but nothing too threatening. On the other side, head north to find the Guardian's Helm. You will have to face off against a boss Assassin Beetle called Boilbite inside; kill the thing, then pull the lever. This will open the gates for Tharayya and her men; head outside and talk to her. She will tell you that the next step is to bypass something called the Guardian's Skull. She will mention that the challenge you will face there has something to do with steam.
Head to the south until you reach the river. Head a bit east along the river, and you will find a door to your north that will lead to the Guardian's Skull. The road ahead is blocked by damaging steam, but you can use the lever here to block the steam valve temporarily. Head across quickly to face off against another boss, the Unstable Construct. Once you have defeated this Dwarven Sphere, pull the lever to open the door to the next room, where you will find the Release Lever that will allow you and Tharayya to progress to the Guardian's Eye. Once this is done, head back outside. A giant Duneripper named Tremorscale has shown up; you will have to kill it before you can speak with Tharayya again.
Once Tremorscale lies dead, speak with Tharayya again and she will tell you that the Guardian's Eye is in a place called the Guardian's Orbit. She suspects that this is in one of the buildings to the south; sure enough; one of those buildings is called the guardian's orbit. Head in and fight your way through some automatons until you reach the Eye's chamber. There, you will have to face off against a trio of bosses: The Guardian's Soul, The Guardian's Spark and The Guardian's Strength. The Spark likes to stand still and throw projectiles at you, while the other two like to use melee attacks. They will occasionally share their remaining HP equally between them, so there is no point in focusing on one over the others. Once all three lie dead, the Guardian's Eye will appear in the middle of the battlefield.
When you try to interact with the Guardian's Eye, Tharayya will call out for you to stop. She will try to dislodge the eye so that it can be taken, but in doing so, she will destroy the Eye. This will cause a horde of Skeletons to appear; There is an endless amount of these, so there is no point in trying to fight. Flee through a door in the south, then speak with Tharayya about what just happened. This will finish the quest.
