The dragon's name is Volthuryol. It translates to Dark Overlord Fire.
Vol = Dark
Thur = Overlord
Yol = Fire.
Is it just me or does this sound like the hobbit with the dragon smaug living in the dwarven kingdom sleeping in a huge underground area, instead of gold there are giant crystals and falmer.
HOW DID HE GET DOWN THERE IS THE REAL QUESTION!
I mean you would think that a dragon in blackreach would be more significant than just kill it then be done.... Bethesda.... what did you get up to in there.....
where did you find this... this knod of explains a lot... but why did bethesda put him in there in the first place....?
sorry tyop kind of explains a lot... oops
I actually had an idea, what if Vulthuryol made a deal with the Dwemer? It wouldn't be completely unheard of a dragon doing that, Nafalilargus/Nahfahlaar made protection deals with everyone from the King of Camlorn to Tiber Septim himself for avoid the Blades' dragon genocide. Given the Dwemer's nature to study everything, and the Aetherium Wars that occured in Blackreach, having a dragon on hand is very useful. Very good protection for the Aetherium Forge, both from outsiders and rival clans, and a good topic of study in itself. And when Kagrenac messed with Lorkhan's heart and deleted his entire race (well, almost entirely, but that's another topic), Vulturyol was left behind to a ruin filled with silent automatons and angry blind Falmer. Think about it, what better place to avoid the Blades' than underground? They'll be too busy looking in the skies and on mountaintops to think that he could be in a hidden Dwemer city in a cavern. If only we could talk to him, imagine speaking to a dragon who knew the Dwemer. The stories and secrets he must know...
ESO Greymoor provides a hint to the answer when you end up having to fix an ..odd machine for a very erm out of place character!
