I've been a Stormcloak from the beginning, but I'd just like to see other opinions or reasons why.
(My reason is simply that I don't like siding with the people who tried to decapitate me.)

I really don't give a damn about the ban on Talos. What did he ever do for my people? Oh, he conquored them and allowed the Dunmer to keep us in chains. And the Nords say we should worship him as a god? Yeah right. As for the Falmer, clearly you never played Dawnguards main quest. Because we meet a non-altered Falmer who reveals the Falmer are regaining their intelligence, ergo the Dwemer's alterations are starting to where off.
I have played through the Dawnguard and Ya I had forgoten about that. I'll give you that the falmer are regaining there intellgence so I am going to leave that as a remains to be seen about them
One can easily realize that the Falmers have a certain degree of intelligence without the need to be informed by Gelebor, since they use magic which requires not only intelligence but also concentration, they are able to build or manufacture their own tools, equipment, breed certain types of creatures, & build rudimentary settlements. The.. problem.., is that they obviously have very perverse minds, since they enslave the minds not only of Humans, but also the minds of other Mers, & apparently they are also cannibalistic, probably feed their domesticated creatures with leftovers that they do not take advantage, Falmers definitely enjoy more the meat from the younger people than the adult ones, considering the panoramic evidences left behind by them after their encounters with the inhabitants of the surface.
-Definitively they would not be one of my first personal options to make new friendships or to invite them to parties.
See, I support the Stormcloaks, and a major reason for me supporting the Stormcloaks is Riften. I know that Laila Law-Giver is incompetent, as she lets Maven Black-Briar literally run the town, but, the Imperials make Maven JARL. She will murder or imprison you if you even disagree with her. As taken from her wiki: Anyone who crosses her typically ends up dead or in prison, even members of her own family. Imagine giving her the power of Jarl. She can do that legally. Maven is a practically a criminal. She co-operates with the Thieves Guild to shut down a competitor and send the owner to jail. Sure, he has questionable morals, like supporting the mage, but still. There was no way Maven knew about the mage. She sent him to jail only because he was a competitor. She also lets the Thieves Guild (if she becomes Jarl) steal from HER citizens. She's the worst person in Skyrim. (In my opinion.) She'll murder or imprison you for life if you simply disagree with her. From her wiki page: Also, the Empire kneels at the feet of the Thalmor, even banning their own citizens from worshipping a Talos, a major Nine Divine. According to the Nine Divines wiki page, Titus Mede II states in a publication that: "mortal men such as Talos were never meant to achieve apotheosis." It is for this very reason that the Emperor, and indeed the Empire itself, recognizes that allowing the worship of Talos was a mistake and publicly declares its support of removing Talos worship from Tamriel. The page also says that it is unknown if it is the actual opinion of Titus Mede or just appeasement, but even if it appeasement, forcing your citizens not to worship a major nine divine is wrong. Also, a small point, they wanted to execute me for crossing a border illegaly. I'm pretty sure that I'd most likely just get a bounty, or be jailed.
I'm having a lot of trouble deciding who to side with. I want to side with someone, simply because I don't want to deny myself the story, world progression, and quests that go with it.
I'm playing a Nord, so my first inclination was to join the Stormcloaks, especially since my introduction to the game was a meeting with an Imperial executioner, but I have no interest in swearing fealty to Ulfric and I don't particularly want to see him become King either. This has nothing to do with his 'policies,' I just don't see why my character should want to support HIM, specifically. He seems self-centered, entitled, arrogant, impulsive, reckless, and irresponsible at best. I would be more keen to get on board with the Stormcloaks if it weren't all about Ulfric's delusions of grandeur, but it seems to be, and that coupled with their apparent disinterest in dealing with the real problem--Thalmor--leaves me rather uninspired by them, quite honestly.
As for the Imperials, they seem decent enough save for the whole Talos issue, which is really inexcusable. But, as my character is Nord, it becomes rather difficult to justify joining up with an army that is fighting a war against my own people, especially given their subservience to the Thalmor. I'd be more open to joining the Imperials if a) I didn't have to kill or help kill my own people as a requirement and b) they were more interested in fighting against the Thalmor. But neither of these seems to be the case.
So neither option is particularly attractive to me. Yet there's no real storyline/quest support for an alternative, or neutral option. And from what I gather, there's no way to resolve the civil war without joining one side and defeating the other. Maybe there's a mod somewhere.
All points people usually make about this debate are largely irrelevant from my point of view. Everyone seems to want to boil this down to some issue of race, but I don't find that particularly important one way or another--at least not at this point, with the Thalmor to deal with. The way I see it, yes, I do think the Nords have a right to self-determination, and freedom of worship, but the primary threat is the Thalmor, and it's truly annoying that neither side in game really seems to want to acknowledge this obvious fact. The Thalmor are the enemies, yet, the Imperials and Stormcloaks both seem unconcerned with them, and are instead, more interested in waging war on each other, which is bizarre. We should be uniting to fight the Thalmor, everything else needs to take a backseat. But until the Thalamor are dealt with, all of this seems pointless at best, and almost certainly detrimental to everyone's interests, regardless.
Dont side with any.... make your own faction. Thats better than all others... like the companions... blades... winterhold mages combined to make a dream team. I would call it the sky-riders... idk sounds stupid but it would be a cool new story... to see what its like if skyrim had no government or moot or stupid high king... just people living with people and killing the usual bandit here and there. In reality this wouldn't last long but if deagonborn was calling the shots then maybe you as the dragonborn should be highking... when you take the jaggerd crown you should go to the greybeards and ask if they instead of the moot can officislly make you high king... after a certin darkbrother hood agent kills ulfric, elisif and the emperor and as well as general tullias. Then you can become high king and boss people around... have executions every friday... and rename all the days of the week to normal. Also make a dragon appreciation festival after you kill alduin... so the dragons don't have the primal need to conquer since they are being kinda worrshiped by the people of tamriel... there we go... peace.
Then someone is going to tell me that this is complete nonsense.

You can actually thank the Stormcloaks...
Ooh! Roasted!
Stormcloaks or Imperials? Well, since I don't care about Skyrim or the petty factions because I'm the Last Dragonborn, I'm too good for them and none of them has earned my trust so I go with whatever, maybe I don't even get involved.
Draevan13 wrote: I'll play devil's advocate here: loading screens can be wrong sometimes, as Bethesda is prone to errors.
Example: one of Oblivion's loading screens claims that Uriel Septim VII is "a direct descendant of Tiber Septim". This is false, as Tiber's grandson died without heirs and the throne passed to Tiber's niece Kintyra. Ergo, all Septims thereafter are descended from Tiber's brother Agnorinth, not Tiber himself.
What I think the loading screen in question means is that the war would have continued and further weakened the Empire had Mede not accepted the Concordat, and that Bethesda poorly worded it (I believe neither the Dominion nor the Empire was in any state to continue the war after the Battle of the Red Ring, as the Dominion sued for peace with Hammerfell rather than conquer it). That, or the people who wrote that loading screen weren't aware of what the people who wrote the "Great War" book had stated and didn't realise that the two were contradicting each other.
-Brief History of the Empire, Book II
The series talks against itself. It's not impossible for the loading screen to be false.
The Great War and the Loading Screen don't contradict. There's dialogue with both the Thalmor members and the Legion members which quite directly state which side would have lost had the war continued.
Always exist the possibility that Bethesda will make continuity errors, regardless of whether the FINBOIS accept it or not, or that they simply use some kind of easter egg as a reference in the Loading Screens, this last case is common with other companies of development of video games such as the dissolved Lionhead Studios.
I agree, there is no rule, policy or terms of use in WIKIA, that prohibits the use of texts in bold, in fact, bold texts are easier to read, which means that "is getting to be an eyesore" simply does not make any sense, or it is just a big lie, this is a shame, since someone with a position of administrator or moderator should be an example, never an exception.
