Why you making such a big deal out of this? It's like complaining about the uselessness of rain in a game. If it rains, why don't the potato and wheat crops thrive??? Jeez
Because if their your Housecarl/Hireling, they should actually do whatever you want! Would it be awesome to have insert follower here to make you some food while duking it out with 2 Legendary Dragons? They could just put it in your inventory! That would actually  give a reason to cough up 500 Septims to some dude in a bar! what if you had like, 100 of each ingredient, & you can cook while they brew(or alchemise)!
Anyway, since its clearly useless in normal Skyrim, is there a mod out there that makes it useful?
I wouldn't know about mods. And can't you make your spouse cook a meal for you and give you money from their shop? Isn't that enough for you?
Yes, if I actually have a spouse.Â
I don't marry in Skyrim for 3 reasons:
1. Out of ALL of my characters, I've never bought a house.
2. I'd like to get money thorugh quests & murder.
3. I can cook food myself.Â
The only reason I WOULD marry someone is their shop. I could buy armor without leaving my house!
...And yet, you complained you wanted a housecarl to cough up 500 septims and "Insert follower here to make you some food" while you duke it out with the dragons, and now you come out and claim you like to earn money yourself through murder and quests, and you make your own food. Get your s**t together mate.
1. I said that YOU HAVE TO PAY for a Follower (I meant Belrand).
2. You can't make food in fights.
Here is a link to a mod that adds a follower that can make things at crafting stations, if you give her the ingrediant she will make potions she will turn hides to leather etc even go shopping for you anyway she's pretty impressive.

Awesome! Does it work Nexus Mod Manager?
It is on Nexus here so i think so? I used her old Oblivion version and never used a mod manager if you have to do it manually its pretty.
