"Here, take a look at this! Some of the Jarl's men came by and left this bounty letter."
―Innkeepers[src]

Bounty Quests are a category of miscellaneous quests given to the Dragonborn in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

A bounty note given by an innkeeper or the Jarl's steward

General[]

Bounty quests can be acquired by the Dragonborn in several different ways throughout the game. One of the most common ways to receive a bounty quest is for the Dragonborn to talk to an innkeeper or the Jarl's steward for work.

It is also possible to receive these quests from helping other faction characters. Most of the bounty quests are given with a Bounty note that tells the Dragonborn where to go and who to kill.

After the completion of each bounty, the Dragonborn will receive a reward. In order for the reward to be received, one will have to go to the Jarl's steward or the Jarl themselves and ask for it. Completing bounty quests is an excellent way to earn the Delver achievement/trophy faster, as they usually involve clearing out dungeons.

List of bounty quests[]

Bounty Task Location Reward
Kill the Bandit Leader Kill a bandit leader Bandit hideouts Gold100
Kill the Dragon Kill a dragon in its lair Dragon lairs Gold500
Kill the Forsworn Leader Kill a Forsworn leader Forsworn encampments Gold100
Kill the Giant Kill a problematic giant for the local Jarl Giant campsites Gold100

These quests are radiant quests, so they are repeatable after the location is reset (30 Game Days).

Bugs[]

This section contains bugs related to Bounty Quests. Before adding a bug to this list, consider the following:

  1. Please reload an old save to confirm if the bug is still happening.
  2. If the bug is still occurring, please post the bug report with the appropriate system template  360  /  XB1  ,  PS3  /  PS4  ,  PC  /  MAC  ,  NX  /  PS5  ,  XS  , depending on which platform(s) the bug has been encountered on.
  3. Be descriptive when listing the bug and fixes, but avoid having conversations in the description and/or using first-person anecdotes: such discussions belong on the appropriate forum board.
  • If the bounty requires the Dragonborn to kill a Dragon in a Dragon Lair which has already been cleared, another Dragon will still spawn, however, they will not release their soul upon death.
    • Fix: Push the corpse away from the lair with a spell which causes objects in the world to fly around (such as Firebolt, Fireball or Reanimate Corpse). When the corpse of the Dragon is far enough away from the lair, the soul will then be received.
  •  360   Some bounties for locations in The Rift, such as Rift Watchtower and Nilheim, cannot be completed if the Bandit Leader has been killed during radiant quests (ex. Retrieve Kharjo's Moon Amulet) as they do not respawn.
