Chrysamere also known as the Paladin's Blade[1] or Sword of Heroes,[2] is a powerful Breton claymore that has been owned by various individuals throughout Tamriel's history. Chrysamere is an "unaligned" artifact and not Daedric in nature.[3]

History[]
- "Chrysamere, the Paladin's Blade and Sword of Heroes, is an ancient claymore with offensive capabilities only surpassed by its defenses. It lends the wielder health, protects him or her from fire, and reflects any deletory spells cast against the wielder back to the caster. Seldom has Chrysamere been wielded by any bladesman for any length of time, for it chooses not to favor one champion."
- ―In-game description[src]
Chrysamere was forged late in the Merethic Era by Asterie Bedel, an accomplished Breton swordsmith of some renown who was delighted in using the techniques of both men and mer in crafting her wares. The heart of the blade itself lies her maker's mark: a mage's knot, which harkens back to the earliest days of Bretonic culture. It was influenced by the magic of Breton society’s Elven forebearers, gaining enchantments as it was passed from hand to hand. It fought in the wars to secure Clan Direnni’s role as lords of High Rock and was present at the first sacking of Orsinium. Its defensive enchantments were sharpened and retooled to protect its bearer in a protracted siege of the Fellthunder Clan of giants in Rivenspire, and it played a small but important role in the Battle of Glenumbra Moors.[4]
Arena[]
Chrysamere, a scribe in Alabaster, a port city in Elsweyr, found a clue related to the location of Chrysamere. The location was inscribed on a tablet somewhere in Elsweyr. The Eternal Champion found this tablet, and with its help, recovered Chrysamere from the province of Morrowind.[citation needed]
Daggerfall[]
Later on, the sword came to be in possession of the Hero of Daggerfall, either after they slew an ancient lich during a mission for the Iliac Bay's Knights' Guild,[5] or granted as a gift from Gortwog for giving him the Totem of Tiber Septim.[note 1][6]
Morrowind[]
The Nerevarine was asked by Varus Vantinius, the Knight of the Imperial Dragon in Vvardenfell, to bring him the sword from the sorceress, Draramu Hloran, who dwelt in Abanabi Cave. The Abanabi Cave can be found southwest of the city Sadrith Mora, Vvardenfell, Morrowind.[7] In order for the Nerevarine to become a Knight of the Imperial Dragon in Vvardenfell, they had to fight Vatinius in a duel. After defeating Vatinius, the Nerevarine recovered Chrysamere and the Lord's Mail from his corpse.[8]
