The Gray-Manes are a faction in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. They are one of the two major clans in Whiterun and have a rivalry with the Battle-Borns.

Origins and relationships

Both the Gray-Manes and the Battle-Borns can trace their lineage back to Ysgramor and the Five Hundred Companions. The Gray-Manes and the Battle-Borns used to be very close, but ever since the start of the Civil War, the two families have been driven apart. The Gray-Manes are separatists and oppose the Empire of Tamriel, while supporting the Stormcloak rebellion. Some Gray-Manes, such as Eorlund, show loyalty to their past as members or associates of the Companions. When asked about the root of the conflict, they will say that the Battle-Borns are weak and care only about money. The Battle-Born and the Gray-Manes are two of the oldest clans in Skyrim.

Interactions

Initially, the Gray-Mane Clan is neutral with the player. Depending on the choices made during certain quests, this will change.

If the Dragonborn kills a member of the Gray-Manes, such as Fralia or Olfina, loots the Key to House Gray-Mane and attempts to enter the house, then all the Gray-Manes in the house will attack. If attempted to run outside the guards will run away.
