Contract: Kill Ennodius Papius is a quest available in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in which the Dragonborn is tasked by Nazir to kill Ennodius Papius, a reclusive lumberjack near Anga's Mill.

Background

I must kill the ex-miller Ennodius Papius, at Anga's Mill. I may use any means at my disposal. When I am done, I am to report back to Nazir at the Sanctuary and collect my reward.

Walkthrough

One of three initial contracts given by Nazir in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. Ennodius Papius, now a paranoid recluse, was once the Miller at Anga's Mill in Windhelm, and can still be found nearby, camped just west along the river below a rock. There is no one near his tent, making him an easy target. Return to Nazir once he is dead and the Dragonborn will receive 400–750 .

An easy way to kill Ennodius is to sneak up the river behind his tent and wait until he sits down on the log, outside his tent. While sneaking, fire an arrow or use a spell to kill him. If he isn't killed on the first try, do it again.

Alternatively, Ennodius may panic and run into the river, causing his demise by the mudcrabs.

Dialogue

You were right to be paranoid, Ennodius. "What? What do you mean? Oh! Oh... no... No!"

Die, worm! "Aiiiiiiiieeeeee!"

(Remain silent) "Who are you? You... you're with the Dark Brotherhood, ain'tcha? I knew it. I knew you'd come for me!"

Any of these options will turn him hostile or will make him run away.

Sometimes after killing Ennodius Papius, the quest does not clear and the quest marker will remain above his dead body. This bug prevents a player from continuing on further in the Dark Brotherhood questline. There is no known workaround as of yet besides reloading an older save file. Sometimes, if Ennodius is killed while on or near his bedroll, the body will fall through the ground, making it unable to be looted. Reloading a previous save file and killing Papius while he is away from his tent should fix the issue. Sometimes, Ennodius does not spawn but the quest marker will still be located above his tent.
