Crimson Nirnroot is an ingredient in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It can be used to make potions at an alchemy lab as part of alchemy.
Biology
Overall appearance
As the name implies, they are crimson in color, contrasting their green cousin, the nirnroot. Nirnroot is distinguishable from other plants due to its aural glow and the chiming sounds heard when in close proximity to a patch. Crimson nirnroot also possess this property, although the chiming sound emitted from them is slightly off-key.
Growth
According to the last paragraph of Sinderion's Field Journal, crimson nirnroot is attracted to water just like nirnroot is. The crimson nirnroot often grows near fungi in Blackreach, which sustains the nirnroot and allows it to grow away from an open water source.
Locations
In Blackreach, there are at least 44 known locations where crimson nirnroot grow, including Sinderion's Field Laboratory, Silent Ruin and the Derelict Pumphouse. Out of the 44, 35 of them can be found in the terrain, and buildings around the edge of the playable area or very close to the edge. They respawn after ten in-game days, and are not affected by the Alchemy perk Green Thumb, as they only have one root. They can be easily located if their chiming is followed. One piece requires Whirlwind Sprint.
Quests
A Return To Your Roots
Bring 30 crimson nirnroots to Avrusa Sarethi at the Sarethi Farm. Started after reading the journal found in Sinderion's Field Laboratory, or finding one of the crimson nirnroot. This quest mirrors the Oblivion quest, "Seeking Your Roots."
Few and Far Between
Ingun Black-Briar requests 20 Nirnroots, but she will also accept crimson nirnroot in their place.
Potions
- Main article: Potions (Skyrim)
When mixed with ordinary nirnroot, the crimson variant creates a potion with four effects, since both roots have all their properties in common; however, this precludes any further effects from being added.
