- For other uses, see Cyrodiil.
Cyrodiil is a province in the center of Tamriel in The Elder Scrolls Online. There are five zones within the province: the Gold Coast, West Weald, Blackwood, City Isle, and eponymous Cyrodiil. The City Isle and central Cyrodiil zones are player-versus-player zones but also have regular player-versus-environment quests. It is bordered by Skyrim to the north, Morrowind to the northeast, Black Marsh to the southeast, Elsweyr to the south, Valenwood to the southwest, and Hammerfell to the northwest. Without any chapters or DLC, the central Cyrodiil zone is the only accessible zone in the base game and was the only zone to exist in the province at launch.
Background[]
- "The Imperial province of Cyrodiil dominates central Tamriel. With the Empire's collapse, armies of the Dominion, Covenant, and Pact have all invaded Cyrodiil, vying for the Imperial throne and control of the greatest prize in the land."

Since the collapse of the Second Empire following the disappearance of Varen Aquilarios and Daedric invasion of Nirn by Molag Bal, Cyrodiil has been left without any centralized government and each region has become largely autonomous as the Daggerfall Covenant, Ebonheart Pact and Aldmeri Dominion fight over the central region and Imperial City in the ongoing Alliance War.[1][2]
In central Cyrodiil, the Imperial City remains under siege by Molag Bal's Daedra while the Alliances fight to nominally control the six districts. In the area around the City Isle, the alliances fight to control the outlying forts to legitimize their claim to the Ruby Throne while incursions from dark anchors continue.[2] The Gold Coast in the province's west is controlled by a triumvirate between the "Pirate Queen" Governor Fortunata ap Dugal ruling the city of Anvil, the Count of Kvatch Carolus Aquilarios, and the monastic Order of the Hour as part of the Akatosh Chantry.[3] Between the Gold Coast and central Cyrodiil, the West Weald is governed by Count Calantius out of the city of Skingrad as is supported by the West Weald Legion.[4] In the province's southeast, the region of Blackwood is collectively controlled by the Imperial city of Leyawiin ruled by the Chamber of Legates and the Ivory Brigade, and the Argonian city of Gideon governed by Keshu the Black Fin and the Black Fin Legion.[5] Other places, like Stirk and Topal Island, have seen little change from the Empire's collapse due to being mostly uninhabited.[6][7]

- Although most of the zone is located in Elsweyr and Valenwood, there is a section of Reaper's March north of the Strid River that is located within Cyrodiil.
- Prior to the game's launch, the Nibenay was planned to be a zone east of central Cyrodiil according to a pre-launch map. The Colovian Highlands was later integrated into the West Weald with the release of Gold Road.
