History

Early Years

Evidence suggests that there have been early human settlements located in the general area of Daggerfall.[1]

First Era

The first ever recorded use of the name "Daggerfall" was in 1E 246 when the Nords of Skyrim invaded the High Rock territory.[3]

Despite the Nordic conquest, the city of Daggerfall thrived under the Nords, but in 1E 369, the War of Succession devastated Skyrim and the nords lost all of it's territory including Daggerfall. Because of its strategic location along the Iliac Bay, Daggerfall began to expand militarily.[1]

Daggerfall allied itself with the Direnni Hegemony in order to oppose the Alessian Order. Aiden Direnni and Raven Direnni led the Battle of Glenumbra Moors securing victory over the Alessians.[1]

In 1E 609, King Thagore of Daggerfall defeated the armies of Glenpoint resulting in the city being a major political city along southern High Rock.[1] In 1E 948, King Joile of Daggerfall allied the city with Sentinel and the Order of the Diagna in order to destroy the first iteration of the city of Orsinium.[4][5] Joile was planning to betray the Redguards and the Order. Joile had his Reachman General, Mercedene of the Winterborn Clan order his archers to kill Gaiden Shinji and Baloth Bloodtusk in Western Wrothgar.[6] Joile's inquisition had begun after that however, King Joile was defeated at the Battle of Bangkorai Pass at the hands of Makela Leki.[7]

The resulting fall of Orsinium resulted in a river route leading into the Iliac Bay more accessible. The small village of Wayrest evolved into a major trading settlement along the Iliac Bay. The Daggerfall monopoly over the sea trade has halted.[1]

In the last years of the first era ruined Daggerfall. The city was affected by the First Akaviri Invasion, Thrassian Plague, and the War of Righteousness.[1]

Second Era

In 2E 541, the city of Daggerfall was attacked by Durcorach the Black Drake and his army of Reachman. The army had gathered at the gates but had been attacked from behind by the Heavy Dragoons from Wayrest. Durcorach was killed by Emeric of Cumberland while the army was defeated by the Knights of the Dragon led by King Bergamot. Eventually, the cities of Daggerfall, Camlorn, Evermore, Shornhelm, and Wayrest formed the Daggerfall Covenant.[8]

During the Alliance War, the Vestige visited the city after escaping Coldharbour. Murders have sprung around the city of Daggerfall resulting in the Vestige investigating. Eventually, it was discovered that the Bloodthorn Cult was involved in the murders and was planning to murder then King Casimir. The Vestige defeated the cultist in Daggerfall and learned that the cult was planning to take over Glenumbra.[9]

Third Era

Daggerfall has garnered multiple rulers throughout the years. In 3E 80, Daggerfall was ruled by King Mortyn but before that, the city was ruled by King Gothlyr.[10]

In the third century of the Third Era, Daggerfall, Sentinel, and Wayrest combined forces and fought the Camoran Usurper.[1]

In 3E 404, Lord Mogref of the isle of Betony asked King Lysandus of Daggerfall to protect Betony from any pirate attacks. King Camaron of Sentinel declared war with Daggerfall for Betony. According to an old rite, Betony was supposedly belonging to Sentinel. At the Battle of Cryngaine Field, King Lysandus was killed by Sentinel Troopers and his son Gothryd became ruler of Daggerfall.[11][12]

In 3E 405, then Emperor Uriel Septim VII sent an agent to Daggerfall to uncover the mystery around the ghost of Lysandus suddenly reappearing. The agent however, got lost in a storm and landed in Privateer's Hold in the Daggerfall region.[13]

After the Warp in the West, Daggerfall grew large enough to conquer neighboring city-states including Anticlere and Ykalon.[14]
