- For other uses, see Dagger.
A dagger is a light one-handed weapon consisting of a short blade and hilt.
Although daggers don't do as much per-hit damage as swords, daggers often have a (40%) faster attack speed and allow the character to be more nimble. The effectiveness and the amount of damage when using daggers is governed by the Blade skill and the Strength attribute.
Since daggers have a (40%) shorter reach than a longsword, it is suitable for close-quarters fighting, when you want to avoid hitting other friendly NPCs or creatures. Also, since a dagger is usually the weakest variant of a weapon material in a set, it is usually the first weapon of that set you are likely to find once you have reached the appropriate level.
Note that a dagger, being the smallest of all wieldable weapons, is also the weakest for blocking, as it is a fact in the game, that weapons larger than the blocking weapon will let damage through, i.e. a claymore will easily penetrate a dagger's block (although damage is still absorbed).
