Dark Knowledge is a quest available in The Elder Scrolls Online. The Vestige must assist the spirit Cartirinque in gathering three tomes around Khenarthi's Roost. These tomes have the power to feed souls to Oblivion. The Vestige needs to resist them in order to collect and destroy them for her.

Background

A spirit named Cartirinque warned me of dark knowledge sealed in three forbidden tomes. She asked me to find all three and destroy them in a shrine on Khenarthi's Roost.

Objectives

1. Collect Journal of Bravam Lythandas, Ritual of Resonance and Masterwork of the Inducer
2. Find the ruined shrine
3. Search the shrine (Talk to Sahira-daro)
4. Talk to Cartirinque
5. Give the tomes to Sahira-daro or Burn the tomes in the shrine's brazier
   1. Choose to burn the books: Talk to Cartirinque
   2. Chose to give the books: Talk to Sahira-daro

Walkthrough

After talking to Cartirinque, the Vestige must find three cursed tomes. One is located right next to her, while the other two are close to Mistral. After this, the Vestige must find the ruined shrine.

Unseen Voice: "Don't believe her lies."

Unseen Voice: "Pain lies ahead. Turn back, master. This is not the place for us."

When they go to the shrine to burn the books, they meet a Khajiit named Sahira-daro who is looking for the books, too. She believes they hold great knowledge, and Cartirinque is a test to stop lazy seekers. Cartirinque will appear and tell the Vestige to ignore Sahira-daro. The Vestige can choose to give her the books, or to go along with the original plan and burn them.

Shrine Brazier: "<You lift the books toward the fire, but your hand freezes in place. You feel a prickling shoot across your skin. A faint pain blossoms in the back of your head.>"

<Walk away without burning the books.> [?]

<Burn the books.> "<Your hand remains in place, clutching the books. A chill shoots through your body. The pain in your head blooms.>"

<Walk away. Protect the books.> [?]

<Ignore the pain. Burn the books.> "<Your hand shakes and your vision blurs, but your fingers do not release their grip on the books. The pain in your head is excruciating.>"

<Walk away. Walk away. Walk away.> [?]

<Burn the books. Burn the books. Burn the books.>

Unseen Voice: "Master, no! The flames burn us! It hurts, it hurts!"

Both options give the same reward. However, choosing to give the books to Sahira will result in her death.

Reward

• Choosing to burn the books gives the Vestige the Inducer's Scalpel and 73–302 from Cartirinque
• Choosing to give the books to Sahira-daro gives the Vestige 73–302 and the Inducer's Scapel.
