The Dawnguard War Axe is a war axe found in The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard. These war axes are in use by the Dawnguard in their crusade against vampires.
Locations
Dawnguard aligned
- Found inside Fort Dawnguard and along the battlements.
- Outside Ruunvald Excavation, inside a tent.
Volkihar aligned
- Looted from various members of the Dawnguard, such as the Dawnguard Vampire Hunter and Dawnguard Scouts.
Enchantment
The weapon's innate enchantment deals 10 points of additional damage to vampires. This weapon can be also be successfully enchanted, however the enchantment will not appear in the menu. The weapon's description will always read "Does additional damage to Vampires" however after it is enchanted the weapon will demonstrate the appropriate color change and unsheathing sound when you ready the weapon.
By enchanting this weapon using the "Extra Effect" perk, one may wield a Dawnguard War Axe with a total of 3 enchantments. This can be extended to 4 if the Fiery Soul Trap or the enchantment from the Notched Pickaxe is used. If both are used, the war axe can have 5 enchantents.
This weapon cannot be disenchanted to learn its effect.
Smithing
All pieces can be upgraded with a steel ingot at a workbench and also benefit from the Steel Smithing perk, which doubles the improvement.
Bugs
- PS3 - If you have 2 Dawnguard War Axes in your inventory and equip one in your left hand and equip another one handed weapon (not the second DG war axe) in your right hand, the dawnguard axe will appear to be equipped and sheated after you change your armor. You will appear to have 2 one handed weapons equipped, one on each hip. The bug will go away if you remove or change an item of clothing other than body armor or when you unequip the weapon in your left hand. You are able to switch the weapon in your right hand to a bow and back again without losing the glitch.
