For other uses, see Deathbrand.

The Deathbrand Armor is a unique set of stalhrim light armor that appears in The Elder Scrolls V: Dragonborn.

Individually, each piece is weaker than dragonscale armor, however when the whole set is worn it ranks higher than Daedric armor that is not tempered, due to the full set bonus.

History

The armor was said to be worn by the legendary pirate king, Haknir Death-Brand. After failing to find a worthy successor, his final wish before he died was for his crew to take a longboat to Solstheim and bury his armor in four separate locations on the coast, while he himself was buried in a barrow on the island.[1]

Acquisition

All pieces are obtained from ancient chests that can only be found during the quest "Deathbrand." The locations are:

Name Location
Deathbrand Armor North of the Earth Stone, follow the coast. Guarded by two Reavers.
Deathbrand Boots West of Tel Mithryn, by the cliffs near the shore. Surrounded by a group of Ash Spawn, and two dead Treasure Hunters.
Deathbrand Gauntlets South of the Bristleback Cave, in a ditch before a river. Surrounded by a group of Mudcrabs. Follow the coast south from the cave.
Deathbrand Helm Haknir's Shoal, north of the Wind Stone.

Smithing

The armor can be upgraded with a piece of Stalhrim and the Arcane Blacksmith perk at a workbench and benefits from the Ebony Smithing perk, which doubles the improvement.

Trivia

  • The Official Game Guide incorrectly lists Deathbrand Armor as Heavy Armor.
  • Deathbrand armor is Light Armor, which benefits from Light Armor skill and perks. However, improving the armor through Smithing is ideally done with the Ebony Smithing perk, which is on the Heavy Armor side of the Smithing skill tree. This means that, unless the Dragonborn has the Smithing skill tree filled up to Ebony Smithing (though Daedric Smithing is required to improve the Deathbrand weapons), as well as a high Light Armor skill, the Dragonborn is not likely to benefit much from Deathbrand Armor.
  • Deathbrand armor is worn by a male Nord with a two-handed sword across his shoulders as one of the load screen images that is sometimes accompanied by the load text about stalhrim.
