The Adamantine Tower as seen in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall

The Adamantine Tower is believed to be one of the oldest buildings in Tamriel, if not the entirety of Nirn.[1] It is believed to have been built by the Aedra soon after the creation of Mundus, around ME 2500.[2][3] The structure later became known as Direnni Tower, and is located on the Isle of Balfiera.

It is said that the building of Adamantine Tower ended the Dawn Era and signalled the start of the Merethic Era.[2]

The Convention

The Convention, the event that ended the Dawn Era to start the Merethic Era, happened when the Aedra created the Adamantine Tower and reunited there in order to decide the punishment for Lorkhan, who tricked them into creating Mundus.

Lorkhan

The Aedra decided to kill Lorkhan by destroying his heart, but, since they couldn't, Auriel and Trinimac decided to tie it to an arrow and threw it as far as possible. The heart eventually landed in Vvardenfell, and became the stone of the Red Tower, also known as the Red Mountain. In the First Era, the Heart was found by Kagrenac, who used it as the power source for the Numidium, a giant golem eventually used by Tiber Septim to conquer and unite all of Tamriel.

Aedra

After the Convention the Aedra left Adamantine Tower: some followed Magnus into Aetherius mantaining their godhood, others wandered around Tamriel and became the Ehlnofey, ancestors of mer.

Direnni Influence

Sometime after the events at the beginning of the Merethic Era, the Direnni Clan decided to use the tower located in the Isle of Balfiera. Many Dirennis were famous, and the clan has lived in this tower for many centuries.[4] Later, it was renamed to Direnni Tower, in honor of the clan.[4][5]
