Discovery in the Mine is a quest in The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon. Carnius orders the Nerevarine to find three Nords living just south of the fork between the Harstrad and Isild rivers. He instructs the Nerevarine to kill all of them, and retrieve the pick axe they should have.

Walkthrough[]
After completing the quest "Bar Brawl," if the Nerevarine sided with Carnius, he will inform them that the miners have stumbled upon a strange kind of ice. The miners do not know what it is, but Carnius knows it is called Stalhrim and is extremely valuable. Carnius will then order the Nerevarine to travel to a ouse just south of the fork between the Harstrad and Isild rivers, and kill the Nords living there for their pickaxe.
The house is northwest of lake Fjalding, south of the river fork. Go there and kill Graring, Aenar and Hidar. They will refuse to talk to you, so you can't taunt them into attacking you one by one. Graring should have the pickaxe you need. After they're dead, the house should be unattended, so go ahead and loot it.
After retrieving the pickaxe, return to Carnius. He will ask the Nerevarine to go to the mine and test whether the pickaxe will really work on the Stalhrim. Go to Raven Rock and venture deep into the mine. Eventually, you'll see a corridor that resembles a nordic tomb. There will be a block of ice here. This is the stalhrim you're looking for. Note that you can only harvest it while you have the ancient nordic pickaxe in your inventory.
Return to Carnius and give him the Stalhrim. He will give you your reward, and if you bring more Stalhrim to him after this, he will forge it into weapons and armor.
