"These tools were found in a crypt outside Windhelm. They belonged to the ancient Nords who dwelt in Skyrim before the days of the First Empire. Most scholars believe that the Nords of old used these implements to prepare the dead for burial. What macabre mysteries would these tools reveal if they could but speak?"
Calixto Corrium[src]

The Embalming Tool, commonly found next to ruined books, is one of the most common items encountered in the ancient Nordic tombs of Skyrim. Though they come in many different types the Embalming Tool has no purpose other than being sold. According to Calixto Corrium, scholars believe that the ancient Nords used them to prepare the dead for burial.

AcquisitionEdit

The Embalming Tools are seen mainly in Nordic ruins:

  • A full set of Embalming Tools can be found on a table next to the ceremonial door in Volunruud.

Embalming Tools can also be found in various "torture chambers," such as the one in the Dawnstar Sanctuary.

UsefulnessEdit

Other than using them to increase the Dragonborn's speech level by selling them, they have no use and can take up much of one's carry weight.

TriviaEdit

  • One of the embalming tools appears to be a pair of metal scissors, which according to Norse legend are used for one of the few ways to prevent a corpse from becoming a draugr.
