Another possible origin that Tolfdir did not mention include the possibility of the Eye being Aedric in origin. The Aedric god, known as Magnus, created the Staff of Magnus, but it is currently unknown whether or not he actually created the Eye of Magnus.

Apart from that demonstrated during the final encounter with Ancano, the Eye exhibits at least one unique demonstrable effect which is available to the player once the Eye has been discovered. As long as the player character is positioned adjacent to the revolving Eye at its first appearing location within Saarthal, an unlabeled effect (not listed in the User Interface) allows the Dragonborn to continuously employ concentration spells even though the Dragonborn's magicka statistic has reached zero (examining the magicka counter immediately after ending an otherwise overlong casting displays zero available magicka, but the spell is not broken upon depletion). Further experimentation by players might yield other previously unknown behaviors.
