Fadomai is the Khajiit version of Padomay.

Creation[]

According to Khajiiti legends, in the beginning, there were two beings, Ahnurr and Fadomai. Fadomai suggested to Ahnurr that they make children to share their happiness. This first litter consisted of Khenarthi, Magrus, Mara, S'rendarr and either Alkosh or Akha, depending on which stories you believe.[1][2] After this initial litter, Ahnurr came to Fadomai and said that they should make more children to spread their happiness. Fadomai agreed, and so Hermorah, Hircine, Merrunz, Mafala, Sangiin, Sheggorath and many others were born.[1]

At this point, Ahnurr thought that they had made enough children, for more would steal away their happiness. However, Khenarthi came to Fadomai because she was lonely, being so high in the sky where not even her brother Alkosh could reach her. and so she convinced Fadomai to trick Ahnurr into getting her pregnant with a third litter.[1]

Fadomai gave birth to the Twin Moons and Their Motions, and to Azurah and Nirni. However, as this point, Ahnurr discovered her giving birth and struck at her, forcing her to flee into the Great Darkness. It is here that she gave birth to her final child, Lorkhaj. Lorkhaj's heart was filled with the Great Darkness, and when he was born, the darkness knew its name and was Namiira.[1]

Fadomai knew her time was almost done, so she gave Ja-Kha'jay the Lunar Lattice, so that Ahnurr would not be able to penetrate it. She then gave Nirni the ability to give birth as she had done. After this, all of her children left, except for Azurah. Azurah was Fadomai's favored daughter, so she gave her her most valued gift: her secrets. Fadomai told Azurah to change one of the peoples inhabiting Nirni into the Khajiit.[1] She also told her daughter the names of all the spirits and of all Khajiit who would ever live. At this point, Fadomai passed away, leaving Azurah to mourn her in the Great Darkness.[3]

Relationship with her children[]

Azurah was Fadomai's favored daughter. She was born of Fadomai's third litter, and was given Fadomai's secrets on how to make the Khajiit,[1] as well as the names of all the Spirits and all the Khajiit who would ever live. After Fadomai's passing, Azurah would cry until she was no longer in the darkness, but rather in a place of Moonlight and Shadow.[3]

Lorkhaj was Fadomai's favored son. He was born in the darkness, and carried it with him. He was the first spirit to make his own path with purpose, as he had always had conflict within himself.[4]

Nirni was also of Fadomai's third litter. She was always competing with Azurah for their mother's attention. On her deathbed, Fadomai bestowed on Nirni the greatest gift of all: the ability to bear many children. Nirni was happy with this, and was also happy that her rival Azurah got nothing, for she did not know that after she left, Fadomai would gift her secrets to her favored daughter.[1]

At some point, Fadomai had another child named Varmiina. This spirit was not of any of her litters, but was born out of Fadomai's fear of losing her children. Azurah killed this spirit in the underworld, so now it can only haunt the Khajiit's dreams.[5]
