"If you're feeling adventurous, I'm always looking for someone to procure valuable books from some more... dangerous locations."
Urag gro-Shub[src]

Fetch Me That Book! is a quest available in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This is a College of Winterhold radiant quest where the Dragonborn needs to find a semi-random book from a random dungeon.

Objectives[]

  1. Find the copy of the book
  2. Return the book to Urag gro-Shub

Walkthrough[]

After completing the quest "First Lessons," the Dragonborn can enter the College of Winterhold and find Urag gro-Shub inside The Arcanaeum:

Is there any College business I can assist with? "If you're feeling adventurous, I'm always looking for someone to procure valuable books from some more... dangerous locations." (On subsequent interactions: "There are more books to be recovered and secured here in the Arcanaeum.")

I'm ready for some adventure "Well all right. Here, I scribbled down the last place I'd heard about. Check it out, but be careful." (On subsequent interactions: "All right. I wrote down the last place I'd heard about. Don't get killed.")
I'm not really interested in anything dangerous "Ah. Some other time, perhaps?"
Note: The quest will not start if the Dragonborn declines or leaves the conversation before accepting.

He will then give a quest to retrieve a random book out of this list, that can be found inside a random boss-level chest in any dungeon in the game, even if it was cleared before. It is best to avoid picking them up from the boss-level chests before this quest is started, as doing so may result in a serious bug (see Bugs section). The books that need to be obtained in a given random order are:

Locations[]

The book's location is radiant, and it is possible for it to spawn inside any boss container found in dungeons.

Conclusion[]

Once the appropriate book has been recovered and return to gro-Shub, he will thank the Dragonborn and provide a reward.

Here's the book you were looking for. "Looks like you're still in one piece. And more importantly, so is the book. Thank you."

Trivia[]

  • If the books that Urag requests are not marked for the quest, can be dropped, and are found as a random loot or bought from him, then they cannot be used to complete the quest.
  • Urag's request for "The Wild Elves" may show as being in the Thalmor Embassy, but is in fact in a chest in Shadowgreen Cavern to the east.

Bugs[]

This section contains bugs related to Fetch Me That Book!. Before adding a bug to this list, consider the following:

  1. Please reload an old save to confirm if the bug is still happening.
  2. If the bug is still occurring, please post the bug report with the appropriate system template  360  /  XB1  ,  PS3  /  PS4  ,  PC  /  MAC  ,  NX  /  PS5  ,  XS  , depending on which platform(s) the bug has been encountered on.
  3. Be descriptive when listing the bug and fixes, but avoid having conversations in the description and/or using first-person anecdotes: such discussions belong on the appropriate forum board.

  •  PC   360   PS3   NX   If a book is picked up before being given the quest to retrieve it, the quest can not be completed and the book cannot be removed from inventory; also, no more "Fetch Me That Book!" quests can be done. The quest marker will still point to the treasure chest in which the book was originally found. Since quest-related items cannot be dropped, it is not possible to drop the book into the chest again to pick it up once more either. The book cannot be dropped before being given the quest either, since it is marked as a quest item even then.
    •  PC (Fix)   This can be fixed with the console command player.setstage MGR20B 20.
    •  PC (Fix)   As an alternative, this can be fixed in a manner similar to the Amulet of Talos quest. Typing player.drop [book code] 1, then picking up the book, will allow the quest to continue normally.
  •  PC   PS3   For PC with v1.4 or PS3 with v1.8, if the Staff of Magnus Quest is active, the dialogue to give book is not available. Urag will just repeat the same phrase about the current situation at the college.
  •  360   It is possible for Urag to send the Dragonborn to a location which has already been cleared before and does not respawn, for example: Lost Valkygg.
  •  PC   The book may not appear in the marked chest at all.
