The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been released on numerous gaming platforms by Bethesda Softworks ever since its launch, including computers, consoles, and hand-held devices. Following its re-master as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, Skyrim was further released on more modern platforms.

PC[]

Skyrim released on the PC on November 11, 2011, along with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. This version supports both keyboard and mouse controls, as well as Xbox controls. Console commands are only supported on PC, and was the also the first release to get mod support with the release of the Creation Kit in February 2012.

This also marks the only platform to get three releases of the game:

  • The original release on November 11, 2011
  • Special Edition on October 27, 2016
  • Anniversary Edition on November 11, 2021

Xbox 360[]

Skyrim was released on the Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011. In 2012, it also received the unique Kinect Integration feature, which allowed the player to take advantage of voice controls to use dragon shouts.

Due to a deal Bethesda made with Microsoft, this was the first platform to receive the Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn DLCs.

PlayStation 3[]

Skyrim was released on the PlayStation 3 on November 11, 2011, the initial launch date of the game.

Xbox One[]

Skyrim released for the Xbox One on October 27, 2016, the launch date of Skyrim Special Edition. This version was the first console release to get mods, which are user created content not endorsed by Bethesda Game Studios. Unlike the PC edition, there is a 5 GB mod limit due to Microsoft's demands, and unlike the PlayStation 4 edition, mods can use external assets.

PlayStation 4[]

Skyrim released for the PlayStation 4 on October 27, 2016, the launch date of Skyrim Special Edition. This version supports mods, but due to Sony's demands, they must use assets from Skyrim, and cannot use external assets of any kind.

The PlayStation 4 also has a PSVR release that does not support mods that was released on November 17, 2017.

Xbox Series X+Series S[]

It was announced on August 19th, 2021 that Skyrim: Anniversary Edition would be released for platforms including the Xbox Series X and Series S. The announcement indicated that Anniversary Edition is based on Special Edition and includes elements from the creation club. Anniversary Edition is slated for release on November 11th, 2021 - Exactly 10 years after the original release of Skyrim.

PlayStation 5[]

It was announced on August 19th, 2021 that Skyrim: Anniversary Edition would be released for platforms including the Xbox Series X and Series S. Anniversary Edition is slated for release on November 11th, 2021 - Exactly 10 years after the original release of Skyrim.

As of the announcement, no platform-specific changes are known for the PS5 version of Anniversary Edition.

Nintendo Switch[]

Skyrim was launched on Nintendo Switch on November 17, 2017. It includes new gameplay features like motion controls for combat and lockpicking, outfits and gear from The Legend of Zelda, which can be obtained in-game or via scanning The Legend of Zelda series amiibo figures. Additional random loot can be obtained by scanning any amiibo figure. Skyrim also includes Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn.

  • When asked at PAX West 2017 whether Skyrim would soon be available on toasters, Pete Hines jokingly said that they did not have the GPU required, but the microwave was still an open possibility.[1]
