Not to be confused with The Mind of Madness.

The Mind of a Madman is a location in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that is centered around the mind of the deceased Emperor of the Septim Empire Pelagius Septim III.

"Welcome to the deceptively verdant mind of the Emperor Pelagius III. That's right! You're in the head of a dead, homicidally insane monarch."
Sheogorath

The Mind of Madness[]

The Dragonborn is transported to the Mind of a Madman from the Pelagius Wing of the Blue Palace by Sheogorath and is asked to repair the mind of Pelagius Septim III with the use of the Wabbajack.

Trivia[]

  • It is impossible to access the inventory or magic menus while the Dragonborn is in this location and, thus, no magic or items, except for the Wabbajack, can be equipped.
  • The items on the table next to Sheogorath's throne are not owned by him and are therefore free to take without repercussions.
TMoaM A1

The house in the Nordic tomb.

TMoaM A2

The Nordic tunnel.

  • Only accessible via using the the tcl console command and heading towards the eastern edge of map, there is a Nordic door, labelled "The Mind of a Madman." At first, it appears to lead to a normal house, albeit empty with the exception of two Nordic doors; the first of which leads back to the main quest area and the second deeper into the new area. The house is contained within a large Nordic tomb and sat atop a table. The second part of the area is a corridor of a Nordic ruin. At the end, it leads to some steps and then just the floor of the map, with bits of Nordic ruins suspended around. This whole area is contained within a large cave. Both areas are a part of the same map and, like the normal quest area, the Dragonborn cannot access their inventory or map and will still be equipped with the items provided by Sheogorath.

  •  PC   360   PS3   It is possible that a dragon may spawn and likely kill the Dragonborn, as it cannot land and the Dragonborn cannot equip any weapons or magic to defeat it.
    •  PC (Fix)   Selecting the dragon in the console and entering the command Disable will effectively "kill" the dragon, as the normal Kill console command cannot kill flying dragons.
