The First Council was an alliance between the Dwemer and Chimer that was formed in 1E 416.[4] Prior to this agreement, there was frequent conflict between the two races: the Daedra –loving Chimer and the agnostic Dwemer.[1][2]

History[]

Formation[]

In 1E 416, the First Council and the nation of Resdayn was formed by the Dwemer and the Chimer to handle the Nordic invasions of Morrowind and to unite the two races as a single political entity, under the rule of Hortator Indoril Nerevar and Dumac Dwarfking.[1][2][4][6][7] After the formation, the Dwemer and the Chimer military forces battled against the advancing Nordic armies. The Dwemer and Chimer armies quickly destroyed the Nordic armies, and forced them out of Morrowind.[8][9]

War of the First Council[]

Main article: War of the First Council

Accounts of the events of this war varies, possibly due to a Dragon Break.[10][UL 1]

At an unknown time, Dwemer miners discovered a magical stone deep beneath Red Mountain. Kagrenac, High Priest and Chief Tonal Architect of the Dwemer, identified the magical stone as the Heart of Lorkhan. Kagrenac and the Tonal Architects started to research and work on the Heart of Lorkhan. Kagrenac forged three tools, Sunder, Keening and Wraithguard, which he would use on the Heart of Lorkhan. [11][4] The Dwemer were also trying building a new god, the Numidium, using the power of the Heart of Lorkhan.[1][2]

This was then discovered and Nerevar was informed of the threat. Nerevar was troubled and sought out King Dumac of the Dwemer to confirm the legitimacy of the threat, but Dumac was oblivious of that and quarelled with Nerevar. Following that, Nerevar sought out Azura and was told that the threat truly exists, and a war broke out between the Chimer and the Dwemer, fragmenting the First Council.[1][2]

Some accounts state that Nords and Orcs, along with House Dagoth, were on the side of the Dwemer while others do not mention the appearance of Nords and Orcs, and/or that House Dagoth was on the side of the Chimer.[1][2][7][5][12][8]

The war eventually led to the Battle of Red Mountain in 1E 700, where King Dumac of the Dwemer, Hortator Nerevar of the Chimer and King Wulfharth of the Nords were slain by different people according to different accounts.[1][2][7][5][12][8]

Aftermath[]

  • It is known that the Dwemer had disappeared during the Battle of Red Mountain, however, the reason varies, or is unknown.[6][12]
  • Vivec, Sotha Sil and Almalexia used the Tools of Kagrenac to obtain power from the Heart of Lorkhan and became the Tribunal.[1][2]
  • The death of Nerevar[1] or the Tribunal's use of Kagrenac's Tools[2] are believed to have been the causes of Azura, in her anger, turning the Chimer into the Dunmer, and prophesising the return of Nerevar's reincarnation.[13][14][15]
  • The five remaining Great Houses and the Tribunal then formed the Grand Council and ruled over Morrowind.[7]
