For other uses, see Forelhost.

Forelhost is an ancient Nordic tomb located southeast of Riften. It is the resting place of the dragon priest Rahgot.

Location[]

Forelhost is directly southeast of Riften on the nearby mountain. There is a pathway on the southeast side of the mountain, just southwest of Broken Helm Hollow. East from Riften along the paved road and just across a small stone bridge is a single track that leads up to the right (south). Past a side path that leads up to Broken Helm Hollow, the path continues generally southwest, then curves to the north and eventually leads to an abandoned bandit tower. Up the tower steps and ramp, and across its bridge, a path leads to Forelhost, minus the flame traps. In the tower there is a frozen body on a bedroll near a pile of rubble with a snow covered expert-locked chest behind it. The word wall for one of the words for the Storm Call shout can be found on the battlements outside. With The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition, The Lost Paladin will be standing in front of the word wall and will attack on sight. Defeating him allows Chrysamere to be looted from his ghostly remains.

Background[]

"It seems that after the strength of the Cult was broken in the Dragon War a last contingent came here to create a stronghold and regroup. King Harrald's forces crushed stragglers here during the First Era and it has been haunted ever since, but the specifics of the siege are unclear."
Captain Valmir[src]

This was the site where the Dragon Cult attempted to regroup after fleeing the aftermath of the Dragon War.

Captain Valmir, an Altmer wearing the armor of whichever Civil War faction the Dragonborn is aligned with, gives the "Siege on the Dragon Cult" quest at this location. Forelhost Stronghold is guarded by several ghost dragon cultists and leveled draugr. See the quest article for a detailed walkthrough.

Quests[]

Siege on the Dragon Cult[]

The Dragonborn is tasked by an Altmer, named Valmir, who claims to be a Stormcloak or Imperial captain, to recover the mask of the dragon priest Rahgot.

Alteration Ritual Spell[]

Talking to Tolfdir with level 90+ Alteration will grant the quest in which the Dragonborn must retrieve Kahvozein's Fang. Forelhost is one of the possible locations the item may be found.

Trivia[]

  • If the Dragonborn has not yet started the civil war questline, the armor Valmir is wearing is determined by who was followed out of HelgenRalof or Hadvar for Stormcloak or Imperial, respectively.
  • It is possible to reach the word wall without going through the dungeon by climbing up the arch and jumping onto the catwalk or ledge, or by jumping up the outside of the wall to the right of where the Dragonborn first approaches. The Whirlwind Sprint shout is not needed to reach the ledge.
  • If one does not join the Companions, this is one of the few places in the game to get full sets of ancient Nord armor.
  • Unlike most of the Nordic tombs that contain a dragon priest, Forelhost respawns most of the enemies within, barring the dragon cultists and Rahgot, who is replaced by a generic dragon priest.
  • If the tomb is visited some time after completing "Siege on the Dragon Cult," the campsite where Valmir stayed is gone, though standing where the fire was will still cast a glow on the Dragonborn's body, as if the fire was still there.
  • If one has the Prowler's Profit perk, all draugr containers and burial urns will be affected by this perk, allowing one to leave with up to 40–50 valuable gems.

  •  360   PS3   In the hallways with the swinging axes, followers may get hit with an axe and get pushed into the wall, causing them to disappear.
    •  360 (Fix)   PS3 (Fix)   use the "Wait" command.
  •  PC   360   If the well lock is picked instead being opened with the key, the rings on the glass dragon claw door will not rotate. Saving and reloading will fix this.
  • A jumping glitch, commonly found within the game, can be used to travel up the stone that houses the entrance to Forelhost (just behind the large arch). This will allow climbing up to the upper walkway to get the Shout. Using a horse to glitch up the rocks behind Forelhost to get to the word is another method.
  • In the Forelhost Refectory, if the Dragonborn runs back into the room where the glass claw was originally found while fighting Rahgot, the barred doorway may close after entering. If so, an object placed on the pressure plate where the glass claw was originally found should open the door.
  • The door to the shortcut out, with a wooden plank attached to it, if activated incorrectly (unsure of how it happens), will open but the plank will stay down, unable to be moved, blocking the shortcut out.
  •  360   In some cases the door that uses the glass dragon claw to open will not respond to the correct combination.
    •  360 (Fix)   leave the area, then return.
  •  PS3   If the Dragonborn climbs up the mountain and stands on top of Forelhost, there will be some holes in the building that can be stood on to look inside Forelhost.
  •  360   Sometimes an entire section of the cage locking the Dragonborn out of the well will be missing, rendering the locked door pointless.
  •  360   Upon entering Forelhost Refectory, the game will crash with a screen similar to the screen with the Understone Keep bug. The opacity of the EXP bar remains low and the sound effects stop. This bug could be level dependent.
  •  PS3   If the Dragonborn acquires the word of power, and activates it before starting the quest, the game may freeze when trying to swim in the well at Forelhost Crypt.
  •  360   Crypt traps: Several of the traps located inside Forelhost Crypts which have pressure plates still go off even though the Dragonborn may have the ability Light Foot.
  •  360   In the crypt before the lightning rune on the wall, there are two columns on each side of the room with pressure plates, with a health potion and an emerald sitting on them, respectively. If the potion is taken, or otherwise knocked off, the pressure plate on the column moves up and down constantly, meaning that there is an endless barrage of poison arrows.
