Free training in skills can be obtained by completing tasks or minor quests for various characters throughout Skyrim. These gains can be obtained at any character level or skill proficiency, much like skill books.
Free skill training can be very beneficial if taken at higher skill levels, as the rate of progress at a higher levels is much slower than a lower level. For example, leveling up in Archery from level 90 to 91 will take significantly longer than progressing from level 15 to 16.
