Garlas Malatar (Ayleidoon: Cavern of the High Wood) is an Ayleid ruin located along the Gold Coast of Cyrodiil. In its prime, Garlas Malatar was a city that worshipped Meridia but was abandoned like the other settlements. Several years later, it was used as a base for Umaril the Unfeathered, upon his revival.[UL 1]

Geography
Garlas Malatar is the westernmost Ayleid settlement in the province of Cyrodiil, being directly on the Gold Coast, overlooking the Abecean Sea. As of now, the ruins of Garlas Malatar were submerged and buried, leaving only as much as a bridge, statue of Auri-El, and the passage into the ruins. Foliage, such as vines and flowers had grown around the ruins, plants such as the Wyrd Flower Blossom, which typically grows in Ayleid ruins. Because of Meridia's influence in the city, Aurorans are known to inhabit the ruins. But occasionally, the local Minotaurs or the Dreughs reside amidst the outside ruins. The ruins are vast, implying the city's importance. Welkynd Stones can be found deep in Garlas Malatar. The rooms found deep within the area are known as Ceysel and Carac Abaren, with the latter being used Umaril the Unfeathered when he was resurrected.
History
Third Era

Around the Oblivion Crisis in 3E 433, Umaril the Unfeathered had been fully-resurrected, with his spirit returning to the physical plane. Once he had returned, he used the ancient ruins of Garlas Malatar as his headquarters, while his Aurorans scoured the province of Cyrodiil, ransacking chapels from Anvil to Bravil. In response to this, a new generation of the Knights of the Nine had arrived, following the orders of the Divine Crusader. The Divine Crusader and his knights had gathered on the outskirts of Garlas Malatar, storming the ruins and slaying the Aurorans guarding Umaril. The first wave of Aurorans were constantly being resurrected by a Dark Orb in the center of Ceysel Room. With the Dark Orb destroyed, the Knights advanced forward, until they confront Umaril. Both the Divine Crusader and Umaril dueled, but the Crusader gained an advantage with the Blessing of Talos. With his physical body destroyed, the two dueled atop the White-Gold Tower of the Imperial City, where Umaril's spiritual body was obliterated. From then on, Umaril was defeated, and Garlas Malatar was ultimately abandoned. The Knights of the Nine continued their journey, into the fourth era.[1]
