Ghostblade is a unique ancient Nord sword, and one of the four unique ghost weapons available to the Dragonborn in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Acquisition[]

The Ghostblade can be obtained in Ansilvund after defeating Lu'ah Al-Skaven and the reanimated bodies of Fjori and Holgeir during the quest "A Love Beyond Death." It bears resemblance to the Drainheart Swords found on draugr ghosts encountered within Labyrinthian.

Enchantment[]

Its enchantment deals three extra points of damage that ignores armor, similar to maces. In addition, the enchantment has unlimited uses and needs no recharging, although the weapon cannot be disenchanted.

Usefulness[]

Ghostblade is the second lightest weapon in the game, beaten only by the fork and knife, and it serves well as a backup weapon, due to its armor piercing effect.

Smithing[]

The Ghostblade can be upgraded with three samples of ectoplasm and the Arcane Blacksmith perk; however, it does not benefit from any Smithing perks, meaning that it can't be improved past Flawless without boosting the Smithing skill over 100. This can be achieved by using enchanted items and/or smithing potions to Fortify Smithing.

Trivia[]

  • Enemies struck by the ghostblade may glow blue very briefly.
  • The Ghostblade is much lighter than most other swords, with an encumbrance value of 1.

  • Despite its default enchantment, Ghostblade can sometimes be enchanted at an enchanting table. Only one enchantment can be put on it regardless of related perks, and it can not be renamed. If its name is changed at an enchanter, it will still appear as "Ghostblade" in the inventory and will not display the given enchantment.
