Gnarls are large Ent-like creatures that use magic and physical force as their primary attack. They can be found wandering in either Dementia or Mania but most of their burrows are in Mania.

When threatened, Gnarls usually open combat with a silence spell. They are able to resist fire, frost, or shock damage. If you hit them with a fire spell or weapon, they will grow in size and become much stronger. Even though you are able to silence a Gnarl, they can still throw their silence spells at you, making them resistant to silence. They drop Gnarl Bark and sometimes Amber. Their homes often have Amber deposits and are defended by organic traps. Elder Gnarls are the strongest of their kind, they have a large health bar and a long lasting Silence spell. They are white in Mania and more dark in colour in Dementia. Gnarls seem to resemble the spriggan which inhabits tamriel.
