Goblin Trouble is a quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Find Barthel Gernand at Crestbridge Camp. He and his family wish to build a settlement at Cropsford, but have been unable to do so due to two warring clans of Goblins.

Mirisa[]

Talk to Mirisa to get the next part of this quest. She says that the goblins at Cropsford are war parties from Cracked Wood Cave on their way to attack a rival tribe at Timberscar Cave (appears as Timberscar Hollow on the Hero's map). The Timberscar Cave goblins stole the Cracked Wood Cave tribe's Totem Head.

Walkthrough[]

There are several ways to finish this quest. The first way is to recover the Totem Head from the goblins in Timberscar Cave, which would stop the war between the two tribes and leave Cropsford in peace. The Hero could do this and not have to kill any goblins; sneaking in and stealing the Totem Head. The second way is to kill the shaman of Cracked Wood Cave, which should effectively destroy the tribe and stop their war parties from attacking Cropsford. A third method is to simply kill all of the goblins in one or both caves.

Once they either recover the Totem Head or kill the Shaman return to Mirisa. If they took the Totem Head she will tell them that they can cause trouble by giving the Totem Head to a rival goblin tribe. Talk to Barthel Gernand to complete the quest. He promises them a hero's welcome in Cropsford once they have had a chance to establish the settlement.

When returning to Cropsford after two weeks, be sure to locate a chest named Reward Chest on the second floor of Bincals' House underneath the stair to the third floor. It refills with gold periodically which the Hero is free to take.

Journal entries[]

Journal Entry
  • Update: Upon speaking to Barthel Gernand:

I met Barthel Gernand on the road southwest of the Imperial City. He and his family wish to build a settlement at Cropsford, but have been unable to do so thanks to maurading goblins. I should talk to Mirisa about how to clear the goblins from the settlement site.

  • Update: After talking to Mirisa:

Mirisa says that the goblins at Cropsford are war parties from Cracked Wood Cave, on their way to attack a rival tribe at Timberscar Cave. She's not sure, but usually goblin wars are caused by one tribe stealing the Totem Head from another.

Mirisa suggested two ways to deal with the goblins at Cropsford. One is to recover the Totem Head from the goblins in Timberscar Cave, which would stop the war between the two tribes and leave Cropsford in peace. The other way to keep the goblins away from Cropsford is to kill the shaman of the Cracked Wood Cave tribe, which should effectively destroy the tribe and stop their war parties from attacking Cropsford.

  • Update: If you steal the Totem Head:

I have taken the Totem Head from the goblins at Timberscar Cave. I should return to Mirisa and ask her what to do next.

  • Update: If you kill the shaman:

I have killed the shaman of the Cracked Wood Cave goblin tribe. I need to let Barthel Gernand know it's safe to begin building the settlement at Cropsford.

  • Update: After speaking to Barthel Gernand:

Barthel Gernand thanked me profusely for ending the goblin threat to Cropsford. He promised me a hero's welcome in Cropsford once they have had a chance to establish the settlement.

Trivia[]

  • It is possible for the Cracked Wood Cave goblins to retrieve their Totem themselves from Timberscar Cave on a raid and return it to their lair. However, it will only count as completed if the Hero kills the goblin who picked it up, takes it, then drops it in Cracked Wood Cave.

  • It is possible that while the quest marker will point to the Totem being on a Cracked Wood Cave goblin, it will not be in their inventory, but in fact still on the ground in Timberscar Cave.
