Group dungeons are large dungeons in The Elder Scrolls Online featuring large groups of powerful enemies and bosses with unique combat mechanics. Each group dungeon has an associated quest and is designed for groups of no more than four, including companions. Only a single group can be present in one instance. There are 16 unique group dungeons in the base game, 8 of which have two variants (I and II) totaling in 24. There are an additional 32 DLC group dungeons with each DLC typically containing two group dungeons and two DLC are released in every season (year).

Each dungeon has unique item sets and are associated with the Undaunted who will provide additional repeatable quests each day for random dungeons offering unique rewards. The dungeon finder in the group and activity menu can be used to queue for specific or random dungeons with other players to form pick-up groups and dungeons have a normal and veteran difficulty that determines the health and damage dealt by enemies. On veteran difficulty, the final boss has an optional hard mode, further increasing the difficulty.

Dungeon finder[]

Dungeon Finder

Player can use the dungeon finder in the group and activity menu to choose which dungeons they want to enter a queue for to be placed in automatically allocated groups for either or both difficulties or can enter the queue for either any random normal or random veteran dungeon. Players can select which of three roles they would like to fill: healer, tank or damage dealer. The dungeon finder will always fill a group with two damage dealers, one healer and one tank. Due to the distribution of player roles, healers and tanks will often find groups faster than damage dealers.

After queuing and completing a random normal or veteran dungeon, the player will be given Undaunted exploration supplies delivered via the mail system that includes Gold, , soul gems, and a transmutation geode and can also include various armor, weapons, and jewelry. This reward is received after every random queue, but subsequent rewards after the first for each day are lower quality.

If a group member leaves during the activity, the group leader can place the group back in the queue to fill the vacant role while continuing the dungeon. When four players have been grouped, each will be prompted to confirm they are ready, after which they will be teleported to the start of the dungeon together. If a player declines the ready check, they will leave the queue, and the other members will re-enter automatically and be placed at the front.

Level restrictions[]

The player's character must be a certain level to be able to queue for certain dungeons and will progressively receive more dungeons to choose from as level up rewards starting with the easiest. At level 45, all DLC dungeons that are owned by the account become available in the dungeon finder. At level 50, all dungeons can be queued in veteran difficulty.

Undaunted[]

Main article: Undaunted

The Undaunted offer repeatable quests and rewards for completing group dungeons. When a player character reaches level 45, they will receive an invitation via the mail system to the Undaunted Enclave. After completing the short quest "Taking the Undaunted Pledge", the Vestige will be able to receive three repeatable quests each day from Glirion the Redbeard, Maj al-Ragath, and Urgarlag Chief-bane at any Undaunted Enclave. Each repeatable quest will instruct the Vestige to defeat the mandatory boss of a different dungeon and doing so will provide Gold, , and a key for any of the three chests at the enclave that provide unique items. Completing the dungeon in veteran hard mode will provide an additional key.

Trivia[]

  • Group dungeons can be entered without a group by teleporting to it on the map or by its physical entrance. Likewise, groups of players can enter dungeons without using the dungeon finder.
  • Unless using the dungeon finder, the difficulty of a dungeon is determined by the group leader's setting in the group panel. If the group leader changes the setting, it will only apply once every group member has left the instance and the dungeon will reset.
  • All player characters in group dungeons are scaled up to match the power of the enemies of the dungeon. This allows low level players to more effectively contribute to groups with higher level players and not be overpowered by high level enemies.
  • If a player leaves a group that was formed by the dungeon finder either during or after the activity, they will be prompted to teleport out of the instance. This is automatic after two minutes.
  • While it is impossible to queue for specific dungeons that the player character does not meet the minimum level for, it is still possible to enter and complete the dungeon by teleporting or manually entering solo or with a group that was not formed in the dungeon finder.
