Altmeri characters suffer an innate racial weakness of 25% to Frost, Shock, and Fire. Wearing these gauntlets help counteract the weakness. Spellswords, Battlemages, and armor-wearing Mages benefit from wearing these as well. During the Mages Guild questline, battles against mage-using enemies is frequent and wearing these gauntlets helps bolster the Hero of Kvatch's defenses against their spells.
