Hide and Seek is a quest in The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard.

Walkthrough[]

If the Dragonborn has sided with the DawnguardGunmar sends them to kill a vampire masquerading as a visiting advisor, traveling pilgrim, traveling merchant, or traveling bard at a radiant location. The killing of the vampire has to be completed without any citizens or guards seeing it or being alerted. However, the targets can be persuaded to follow the Dragonborn to a more secluded location, with the exception of the advisor, who must be killed with risk of a bounty.

Possible locations[]

Strategies[]

Option A[]

The first option is to convince the target to follow the Dragonborn with a high enough Speech skill (not an option for advisors). If the Dragonborn persuades or intimidates them to follow, they can lure the target to a hidden place and kill them there. One easy way is to lure the target out of the town they spawn in and take them a good distance away from it. After a certain distance, the target will turn around and start to walk back, leaving the Dragonborn a chance to go into Sneak and stealth kill the vampire while their back is turned, thus avoiding incurring a bounty and completing the objective to discreetly kill the target.

Option B[]

The second option is to kill them from a hidden location. This is best done with a high Sneak skill.

Option C[]

The third option is to use a hidden identity by transforming. Go to a hidden location and then transform into a werewolf or a Vampire Lord, if available. Everyone will become hostile to the Dragonborn, but their identity will be hidden and they can kill the target and then flee before taking too much damage from attacking citizens and guards.

Option D[]

If the Dragonborn's Illusion skill is high enough, the Fury spell can be used to cause the target to become hostile to everyone; this will cause the guards to attack the target and kill them. A Fortify Illusion potion can help get the Fury spell to work, but the guards can come after the caster. Using the Quiet Caster perk can also mitigate being detected after using Fury.

Option E[]

If one can get far enough away, sneak, and shoot them with a bow (while unseen), they will look and chase after the Dragonborn. Lead the vampire away from any possible witnesses, and then kill them.

Option F[]

Use the "Conjure Flaming Familiar" spell from the quest "A Scroll For Anska."

Option G[]

Travel to the location at night, and wait for vampires to attack. They will be hostile towards the vampire and can be led towards him.

  •  360   PS3   If the The Elder Scrolls V: Dragonborn DLC has been installed, Gunmar can send the Dragonborn to Raven Rock to kill a vampire, even when the main quest has not been completed.
  •  PC   360   The quest marker will sometimes point to a place with no vampire present. This bug was first encountered in the Winking Skeever inside Solitude.
  •  PC   360   PS3   Sometimes, the vampire may be marked as "Visiting Advisor" and won't allow you to speak to him beyond the generic dialogue (such as "Yes?," "Hmm?," and "What do you want?").
    •  PC (Fix)   Solution: tell a companion/follower to attack them.
  •  PC   360   PS3   Sometimes the target will be in Honeyside manor.
    • (Solution) Purchase Honeyside, enter it and leave, then wait a couple of seconds and the target will appear.
  •  PS3   Sometimes when speaking to the vampire, the second option of speech may say "You're no bard/merchant/pilgrim." instead of assigning one of the three.
