Housings, or houses, are locations in The Elder Scrolls Online added with Update 13 as part of Homestead that can be purchased or awarded to the Vestige to live in and decorate with furnishings. Houses can be bought furnished or unfurnished with either or , and some are given to the Vestige as a reward; some houses can only be bought from the Crown Store and are only available for limited periods. Purchased houses are purchased for the entire account, allowing them to be accessed by any character on that account, and all furnishings remain present regardless of which character is currently logged in. For houses available in the Crown Store, it is not necessary to purchase the chapter or DLC for the zone a house is located in to purchase it, but it will only be accessible by teleportation. Houses not available in the Crown Store require the appropriate zone chapter or DLC to purchase them. There is no limit to how many houses can be owned, but only one can be set as the account's primary residence at a time.
Houses can be decorated using the housing editor to place, deleted and manipulate various objects. Furnishings can be finely moved by factors of 0.01 meters, rotated and oriented in three dimensions, and can have their collision disabled with other objects to allow them to intersect or be placed in other objects. Furnishings can be acquired by looting, crafting using materials and schematics, purchasing with from merchants, or by purchasing them with in the Crown Store. The Crown Store offers several collections of several furniture items in various themes and functions.
Houses have a limited number of different types of furnishings that can be placed within it at any given time, including traditional, special and collectable furnishings and special collectibles. The size of the house – inn room, apartment, small, medium, large, or manor – determines how many furnishings can be placed within as well as how many characters can be present at once. An active ESO Plus subscription doubles the number of furnishings and collectables that can be placed in a house. Traditional furnishings include common items such as structures, fauna, food, and lighting among others; special furnishings are more unique and include statues, interactive items and items with ambiance such as unique lighting or sounds; collectible furnishings are unique items typically acquired from achievements, especially by completing group dungeons, and include mounted trophies and busts; special collectibles are reserved for mounts, pets, houseguests, companions, and assistants.
