Imperial Light Armor is a set of light armor found in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It is worn by the majority of the Imperial Legion.

It is one of the earliest forms of armor available as it is being worn by the Imperial soldiers at Helgen during the quest "Unbound"

Locations

Worn by Imperial Soldiers throughout Skyrim. Several sets can be looted from the corpses of Imperial soldiers if the Stormcloaks are joined during the civil war questline.

Smithing

Pieces can be upgraded at a workbench with a piece of leather, however they do not benefit from any smithing perks. This means armor cannot be improved past flawless quality without boosting the Smithing skill over 100. This can be achieved by using enchanted items and/or blacksmithing potions to Fortify Smithing.

The set can be crafted as of the 1.9 patch.

Variant

A variant of the armor piece, called Studded Imperial Armor is available. It replaces the leather collar around the neck and on the back with chainmail. It grants the same level of protection as the regular piece but it cannot be improved at a workbench due to a bug. One can be obtained from Beirand if the medium armor is chosen after joining the Imperials.

Trivia

The armor is a combination of leather and chain mail, resembling Roman legionnaire armor.

If you talk to a guard while wearing the full armor set, they will say that you look like an Imperial scout.

Stormcloak Soldiers may make the comment "You got a lot of nerve, coming here, dressed like an Imperial Legionnaire". If you reply "I'm loyal to the Empire and I don't care who knows!" the soldier will remind you that a war is going on and the entire camp will turn hostile.
