The Iron Shield is a piece of heavy armor and part of the iron armor set found in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Locations[]
Enchanted and unenchanted variants begin to appear throughout Skyrim at level 1. These locations include:
- Blacksmiths and general goods merchants.
- Found as random loot in chests or as a world item.
- Carried by Bandits, Draugr, Hold Guards and skeletons.
- One can be found in Helgen Keep during Unbound, in the small armory inside the torture room.
Variants[]
- Roggi's Ancestral Shield – quest item for Roggi Knot-Beard. Its slightly stronger than the regular shield in that it grants 5 more points of protection.
- Dented Iron Shield – can be looted off of Hulking Draugr. Dented iron shields have 5 less armor points than a standard iron shield and cost half as much.
Smithing[]
The iron shield requires no prerequisite Smithing level or perks to forge. It can be crafted at a blacksmith's forge with the following components:
- 1 × Leather Strips
- 4 × Iron Ingot
It can be upgraded with an iron ingot at a workbench, though it does not benefit from any Smithing perks. This means the shield cannot be improved past flawless quality without boosting the Smithing skill over 100. This can be achieved by using enchanted items and/or blacksmithing potions to fortify Smithing.
Trivia[]
- The shield appears to be made almost solely from wood, though this is not an ingredient in its making.
