The Iron Shield is a piece of heavy armor and part of the Iron Armor set found in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Locations

Enchanted and unenchanted variants begin to appear throughout Skyrim at level 1. These locations include:

Variants

  • Roggi's Ancestral Shield - quest item for Roggi Knot-Beard. What's so unique about this variant is that it's only 5 armour points stronger.
  • Dented Iron Shield - can be looted off of Hulking Draugr. Dented Iron Shields have 5 less armour points than a standard iron shield and cost half as much.

Smithing

The Iron Shield requires no prerequisite Smithing level or perks to forge. It can be crafted at a blacksmith's forge with the following components:

It can be upgraded with a Iron Ingot at a workbench, however it does not benefit from any smithing perks.

This means the shield cannot be improved past flawless quality without boosting the Smithing skill over 100. This can be achieved by using enchanted items and/or blacksmithing potions to Fortify Smithing.
