When approaching Aphren's Hold, you will run into a man called Blaise Pamarc. He will tell you of a legendary sword called King Aphren's Sword that is hidden in the ruins here. He claims to be on a mission to secure the sword and bring it safely to Wayrest before the Ogres or the Supernal Dreamers can get it. The Supernal Dreamers were actually here before, but they accidentally awakened the spirits here and got killed. Blaise will tell you that the sword has been split into three parts and spread around the area; it can only reforged in the tomb of King Aphren himself. He can then be persuaded to give you a spell that will temporarily allow you to summon one of the dead here to fight at your side.
Climb the stairs to Aphren's Hold, and you will see that it is indeed occupied by hostile ghosts. If you head right immediately, you will find a skyshard, so be sure to pick that up. Continue on into the tower and you will find the blade's pommel in a chest. Once you have picked it up, the ghose of Princess Mira will appear and complain about how she was left to die. Head go back to where you entered the ruins and head left; in the tower there, you will find the blade of the sword. It will be up a few flights of stairs; when you take it, you will again see the ghost complain about being unloved. Finally, the hilt will be in the northwest of the ruins; in the tower, up a flight of stairs.
Once you have all the pieces head for King Aphren's tomb. It should be on your right-hand side upon leaving the tower where the hilt was. There will be several skeletons throughout the tomb looking to kill you, so take care. The king's tomb will me in the first small side room along the hallway; you will find the ghost of King Aphren there. Speak with him and he will ask for the shards. You can choose whether to give them to him or not. If you do not give them to him, [?]. If you do give them, he will tell the story of how he failed to protect his daughter Mira, and is hoping to make amends. He hopes that if you bring the sword to her tomb, she will understand and forgive him.
At this point you have a choice. Either you bring the sword to Blaise outside, or you bring it to Mira further in the tomb. If you give it to Blaise, [?]. If you wish to give it to Mira, you can find her tomb further along the hallway, to your right. Give her the sword, and she says she will destroy it. The sword meant so much to her father; she says that if he is willing to let her destroy it, she is willing to forgive him. Head back to the King's tomb and you will see an interaction between him and Mira where she forgives him. Talk to the king to finish the quest and get your reward.
